... to see the local communities settle in after sunset. We followed the course of the Nile. Each small farming community has armed guards at the gates. As the sun sets all the small mosques call the faithful to prayers and light up the minarets like Christmas trees. On the outskirts of Luxor we are assigned a police escort so had a clear run through all the police checks and didn't have any trouble finding the hotel. Air Conditioning and cold drink, life is ...

... We headed back to Russian Bali but left the next day. To be honest, it was a relief! "Let's meet somewhere in the middle", said Dan clearly missing his dear old mum (and some time off work) after four long months. And to be honest I was looking forward to some quality time with my eldest, not to mention a bit of r & r somewhere hotter than Essex.

That was where the problems began. Donning a burka and having to convince everyone that I was in fact “his mother” so as not to get us both beheaded, was not a prospect I relished, so ...

... everywhere we went given that tourism numbers from those countries are down 80%. This could also be the last entry in the blog for 2-3 days as our Egypt Vodaphone data SIM (3 GB for AU$10) in the iPad will cease to work after we leave Cairo Airport and Internet access in Jordan is expensive so unless we find reliable wifi in our Bedouin Tent accommodation out in the Jordan desert our next update may even come from Munich in 6 days ...
