... We had an awesome apartment with all the trimmings including access to the hotel pool. We arrived late afternoon, picked up a rental car, put some shorts on and headed into downtown Cancun. Cancun is very built up. The beach is lined with high rise hotels, bars and restaurants. The one road in and out is lined with palm trees and well kept green grass. ... 30 seconds when it started to rain... and it basically didnt stop the entire time I was on the island. So no swimming for me :(
I grabbed some enchiladas for dinner and spent a couple of hours in a hammock out the back of the hostel before the rain drove me indoors. I called it in early and hit the sack, listening to the loudest thunder I've ever heard rage all night long.
I slept late the next morning, avoiding the downpour and when it finally let up I decided to go find ...

... with impossibly high perches. The players had to hit a twelve-pound rubber ball through the rings using only their elbows, wrists, and hips. Apparently the game lasted for hours. Similar to the ruins at Lamanai, at the game’s end, the winning team was sacrificed by decapitation. The lower stones in the walls are carved to depict such winnings.
