We'll always have Paris....

... that is not appreciated in quieter more reserved cultures.

I was seated next to an AP reporter on her way to her post in Kabul, Afghanistan, via Abu Dhabi. We chatted pleasantly for a while about travel, writing and journalism. Her enthusiasm faded noticeably, though, when she found out I worked for a Christian publication. The conversation pretty much dried up. Perhaps she feared Christianity might be contagious. I slept most of the ...

From Opulance to Decadence

... and awkwardly, absent. In good spirits, we strolled along the Seine to our Pont Neuf boat tour where we bordered a nearly empty tourist barge. The following hour tour did much to convince me of Paris' beauty, with the blue-lit Eiffel Tower's and Bridge of Alexandre III highlighting (quite literally) the City of Light's historical wonders. The ring of 15-gold stars on the blue backdrop of the Eiffel Tower commemorated France's ...

Breakfast - 0730 - what a great start!

... and size of both stores put together - we had a brief look around so we knew where to go on our actual allocated shopping day. From here we strolled through the streets of glorious paris, down - eventually - to the gardens where the fete had just so happened to be. We walked through but chose not to participate due to the fact that we were still not quite confident with saying hi hello how are you.. After enjoying a long awaited rest (current time ...

WE ACTUALLY DID STUFF!

... I think because it was the first Sunday of the month. Jeff and I got separated being the geniuses we are and explored alone. Didn't run into each other until we were leaving! It was a pretty cool museum. Tons of stuff from ancient Asia, the Americas, Oceania, and Africa. Unfortunately, the exhibits were only in French, so I couldn't tell when they were made, though some looked really really old. There were little maps, so I could tell at least where they were ...

Paris here we come!

... come back and then 3o minutes latter they would run again as the police made another trip through. Next we went to the Notre Dame, beautiful Catholic church, but very dirty and run down, it was Sunday and there was a service going on with the alter boy singing and the priest doing the blessing with frankincense, it was amazing to watch the rituals. The rest of the evening we spent figuring out where our train was ...

Pardon my French...

... a great view of the cathedral. My time in Paris was overall wonderful. I was pleasantly surprised to find most of the people I encountered were polite, even with my poor excuse of French abilities. My diet in Paris consisted mainly of baguette sandwiches, but I also tried some quite tasty and delicate salads, as well as a duck dish at my hostel. And let's not forget the French pastries that were works of art ...

Le Tour Eiffel

... work to do, and I was going to go do some souvenir shopping while he took care of business. I managed to buy trinkets and gifts for just about everyone on my list, and found a bakery on the way back to the hotel to get a baguette for our picnic lunch of borsin cheese, pate, and wine. When I got back to the room after an hour or so, RT was wrapping things up and we headed across Rue de Rivoli to the Tuilleries Gardens for our special picnic ...

Afghani Treasure at Musee Guimet

... through an exhibition space as possible. No matter if one has to queue for an inderterminate amount of time, or snake slowly through an exhibition. No, I've learned, that would not be the French way. Tortured, convoluted paths in France must reinforce the seriousness of the endeavor. And queues only verify that the effort--whether in lining up to buy bread or meat, or waiting to enter a museum--is worth the wait.

A Night In Paris - Never To Forget!

... screamed at the thunder and ran away), but when we approached we had all the hawkers trying to sell little glowing Eiffel towers, and with crowds of people everywhere and the rain now pouring down, Glenn looked at Christie and said lets get out of here! Yes, Glenn was disappointed, and upset that the perfect day had not turned out quite so perfect. Still, there was hope, and we caught the metro back. Glenn decided that we would get out at the Louvre station and see if it was ...

Thoughts on the next 2 months

... a healthy size like I used to be at the beginning of the summer. Before I left for Paris, I was 125 pounds, a size 7-9 pants, and had an oval face. Now I am back to the round face, a healthy size 9 pant, and working on the cosmetics. The air over here is aweful for my skin ;) but I still fit in all my clothes (most of the time) and don't consider myself to be getting FAT yet-let's wait for those gelati in Italia~ I will also never forget how awful it is to drink the tap ...
