    ... pay station where we tried to pay with our ANZ travel card and it didn't work. Great. Luckily the lane was also a cash and coins lane, so this problem was easily solved. The next section wasn't so easy as we picked a lane accidentally that was card only. We tried four different cards that we had and all of them said not accepted.     ... The young guy had no English at all. We saw a sign on the bar - sandwich. Great - Phil knew frommage was cheese - all good so far - the other filling was prosciutto - he kindly showed us. We are on al roll! We will have deux! He brings out a giant two foot long bread roll! Ok cut that in half I say - lots of hand action - he understands cut - so he slices off about a quarter - ok I will have the small quarter! Ok he gets that.     ... at the table. "I'm sorry guys, but Maccers was the only place open, I swear! We looked everywhere. Do you have any idea how many shops leave their lights on when their closed? Do you?!"     ... medicine only shops, staffed by what we would call physicians assistants. They are knowledgable and prices are unbelievably low. We stopped in for some drops for Jim's eyes, something for stopped up ears, and a decongestant. Total cost was 10 euros and these were prescription level meds. So perhaps Jim said it best. We offered to cancel our stay with him and try to find a hostel in Genova, but he kindly insisted that weakling still stay with him and when we arrived in his town, he was at the train station.
