Hall of Mirrors and Horse Meat

... last summer, Cafe Charlot.

It is not far from our apartment. The Girl had a Croque Jeune Homme and I had Steak a Cheval...aka horse meat. I really didn't know what to expect. But I've been wanting to try it. I had never seen it on a menu, but then I had never looked for it either. So when I saw it, I had to try it.

What came out was a hamburger patty with a fried egg on top. I used to be totally grossed out by fried eggs, but after having raw egg as a ...

Paris - Day 2 - Eiffel Tower, Good Grub, & Cruise!

... Wonderful. My research online find us a deeply discounted, pre-purchased ticket packet for the boat (saved nearly 20 euros!), and we enjoy a wonderful one hour cruise that starts at 9pm. Its a perfect trip. Tons of historic buildings. And twenty minutes in to the trip, the experience turns from a dusk/sunset cruise to a full on nighttime experience. So we get the best of both worlds. We see a bit of Paris during the day, and also get to experience its ...

Awwwwwsome Paris!

... suggest this tour you can get off and on as ofen as you like, all day long, we did. We caught the hop on hop off bus directly outside Gare du Nord train Station.we paid less for the tour than if we had bought our tickets from CAA before we had left Winnipeg which we thought was a little odd, but it makes for a good travel tip! We bypassed yet more gypses at the station same ones same story, we saw more at the Effle tower, we now have some rules, if some one asks if you speak ...

First Day Wasted in Paris

Okay, I take back what I said about the washing machine; it is just as evil as the other one. In conclusion, European appliances really are all pieces of ****. I had to individually translate each word on the machine using the internet until I found one that meant "dry". That's really how I wanted to spend my day. Well, I guess the washing machine didn't matter since I didn't get up until way after 1 pm anyway. I woke up so ...

Paris: One hour of madness

... showing the same incomplete train schedule at every platform, and only one screen showing a complete schedule. I don't understand...After finally figuring out my train schedule, I was able to board. At the last minute, I really mean about 30 minutes ago, I made a fairly substantial change ot my itinerary; I was going to exit at Bayeux, instead of Carentan and walk to the Arromanches; tonight.

Rue Lepic

... vides. (Ici on dîne). Les restaurants et d'autres endroits sont fermés de 14h à 19h. Et les écoles ferment le mercredi. Elles sont ouvertes le samedi avant-midi. Les parents ramassent les enfants à la crèche vers 18h30. Bon ...

Through the chunnel

David drove us to Solihull where we caught a coach to Victoiria coach station in London, then taxi across to Waterloo station to board the Eurostar train to Paris. Very smooth. Hardly noticed our time in the tunnel. Arrived in Paris at Gare du Nord and walked around to our hotel very close by.. Checked in then had a short walk to explore the local area.

Paris...oh bloody hell

... and I have to go and do this ****... So there it is, my 4th time in Paris and I spent it eating a tuna sand which ,drinking an orangina, fighting with the train station security who were totally convinced I was a bum, and finally paying another 50 bloody Euros to backtrack to Lyon. Not the perfect conclusion to a month long voyage by any means. But I reckon that, for all my mates and girls at least, it made for a funny story. I live to entertain, apparently...

Un week-end a Paris

... all for now. We hope to return to Paris near the end of our trip (money permitting), because there's of course so much left to see. On my list in particular are the Musee D'Orsay, the Catacombes, the Pantheon, and of course Versailles. We've already taken a million pictures, many of which I will try to post here as I can. I've also taken a lot of video, so compiling finished DVD of our travels will be one of my (many) summer projects. A bientot! Janey ;)

day in Paris

... Afterwards we shopped on rue de Rivoli and got espressos at a cafe there. We drove back to the ETAP to get ready and we went to the Indian restaurant across the street from the hotel for dinner at Le Sari, which was excellent. Then we took the train out to rue de Oberkampf to check out some bars, pretty cool dingy rock bars/pubs.
