... the large city of L'Aquila which was severely damaged by an earthquake a few years ago. There is still a lot of repair work happening and also a lot of buildings left abandoned with severe damage. We head to a small village in the alps called Santo Stefano di Sessanio. It is very small and has amazing views across to the snow capped alps. We have lunch in il restoro degli elfi (restaurant of the elf!) Gilberto is certainly taking the quest to find elves and ...

The Borgia painting was not hanging there or anywhere in the small room where Caterina's portrait is prominently hanging when I visited. Again, what the museum is about is a puzzle to me.

Quite a cool morning as we walked up to the first fort. This was ...

... We pulled off the autostrada for a coffee and a croissant for those who wanted - and was served by an Italian speaking Chinese (seemed out of place). Every little place and one horse town has a very good coffee machine we have found in Italy. San Marino is certainly a jewel to visit! It is situated on the Italian Peninsula on the NE side of the Apennines Mountains. It is 61 km2. It is the wealthiest country in the world in terms of GDP (per capita). We caught ...

I almost sail past the services where the other two have pulled in. But I just manage to spot a taillight and veer from the outside lane, to the slip road and pull up behind them. It seems they have decided not to carry on to Sud Tirol (it is another 500km) and have decide to stop for the ...
