... dunes behind it. And the beach was much shallower into the sea. David enjoyed another session in the Med. We drove up to Leucate and then to La Franqui to see what the coast was like and where the campsite was located. La Franqui is a lovely, small resort without the excesses of larger places. We liked it and can understand why Simon and Suzie choose ...

Another hot and sunny day. We left the 'car park' to move further up the coast. The landscape changes to a more tropical feel. Palm trees and flat countryside is the new scenery. We have decided to go to an aire at Latour-bas-Elne. It is a fabulous aire. It's situated behind a camping-car and accessory dealers. They also store caravans and camping-cars for owners who don't have space at their homes. It has security gates which lock between 9pm and 8 am. Just like a campsite, without the ...

... be coming in the opposite direction at that moment! Back on track, we found the aire. Good facilities, plenty of space, but soulless. We drove Smartie into Collioure and port Vendres. Collioure was pedestrianised and busy. Not my type of town. Some fabulous views - the castle and the seafront, but Port Vendres was much nicer. More people watching. A busy commercial port, but also ...

... The road was narrow and windy and up and down. We had decided to go separately and that was th right decision. But the scenery was magnificent. We were in the Corbieres and heading into the Pyranees. The aire was fine. Relatively full. A good steak in the nearest restaurant and a late drink. Impossible to sleep - the night temps were heading up from 20 and it was hugely uncomfortable. Although it was hot, there were dark clouds and quite strong ...

... the various entertainment the site had to offer. The boys have also taken a real shine to card games, with Knockout Whist and Poop-head currently on the repertoire, with surely more to follow. The pitch we were given had an incredible view of the lake and we were certainly sad to leave, but is was a good way to mark the end of the camping, and the beginning of the end of our journey. Next up, ...
