Enjoy the natural beauty of the Swiss Alps with our free day in picturesque Zermatt. We will experience the Klein Matterhorn where the views across the mountain peaks are spectacular. Thank heavens we did not have an early start as Phil has been has been sick since early this morning, so Barbara and Karen went with our travelling companions to the Matterhorn. We travelled on two gondolas to get to the top of the mountain. The first gondola held a maximum of six people, ...

This morning we visit the picturesque Chillon Castle immortalised by Lord Byron's 'Prisoner Of Chillon'. We continue our journey to Zermatt, which is inaccessible by coach, ascend to our hotel by electric mini-buses and taxis. Late sleep in, thank heavens, beautiful breakfast then off to Chillon Castle. Wow what a sight it was lovely. The things that we really liked about this castle was that you were and could explore nearly ...

We exited the cable car station and with a quick check of the map, started up the hill (lol, hill) to join the start of our walk to the lakes. ...

... to the steep inclines. The views on the last train to Zermatt were nothing short of spectacular. Truly amazing the scale of the alps/mountains. Luckily we received good weather in Zermatt as it was predicted to be thunderstorms. The car free resort town is bigger than we thought but absolutely stunning. We can see the Matterhorn from outside our hotel (we had to change rooms from one with a Matterhorn view as we brought our trip forward 2 days when ...

... subsequent foot drying and re-booting, Mummy simply waded across fully-booted in all of 5-10 seconds flat (compared to more than 25 minutes in the earlier scenario). It got me thinking that maybe it would be a good thing to have an assertive woman as part of my life. Then again, perhaps not !

The rescue came at a slight personal cost as Daddy Swede snapped one of my precious LIKI walking poles. It was a complete accident and just goes to show what difficult terrain ...
