Buenos Aires, Argentina thefletchers... soaking up some spring sun. <br>Walked up to Plaza Mayo (smack bang in teh center of town) whcih is the oldest place in Buenos Aires and supposedly where the Spanish first set up the town a few hundred years back. With graffiti on the walls and various encampments on the plaza demonstrating for various issues (mostly concerning the recognintion of the forgotten´heros´of the falkland war), this part of town wasn´t as quaint as San Telmo ...
Buenos Aires, Capital Federal District, Argentina sebou... own central commercial district, residential areas, good parts and, of course, bad parts. All you really need to know well in order to get by is your own barrio and possibly parts of other nearby barrios. Each barrio technically has enough shops, restaurants, supermarkets, schools, and everything else that you could live your whole life without leaving. And Buenos Aires is not like so many of our cities in the states ...
Caballito, Distrito Federal, Argentina ben_grainger... businesses and seemed a very wealthy area of Buenos Aires-it was class down there. On route we passed a street called ´9th of July´ and it is apparently the widest road in the world (previously was Champs Ellyse in Paris) so that was an interesting fact on route!! After a handy enough walk down to the water area we began to get the munchies so Joe suggested to try a steak sandwich which are sold in roadside kiosks. They were simply incredibl. For 8 pesos which is about 1.50 ...
Buenos Aires, Capital Federal District, Argentina sharor... cats, but the plant life was nothing but normal plants from around the city with small plaques in front- oh well, it was free! We managed a quick visit to the Hard Rock Cafe afterwards where I purchased a new badge for my worldwide hard rock badge collection! And following this we topped off my cheffed-ness by having our best lunch yet in the continient. It was... OH YES... steak!! no food has ever shut Sean and I up like this ...
Buenos Aires, Argentina samborose... going to be even better! The park Punta Rasa yielded up lots of new birds for us, and the Pampas area of Argentina is really beautiful. Unfortunately, we couldn´t get to the other reserve, which is in power struggles with the neighbours, who don´t want tourists to be on their road, so we couldn´t go there either. So much for seeing South American Painted Snipe. Fortunately, it was time to go to Buenos Aires! Big city, here we come! Lots of museums (including one on ...
Buenos Aires, Argentina nathangie... lined up almost like an old empty village in England and each building was dedicated to a family. Some of the tombs had 10 or more coffins in them stacked along the walls. Some of the buildings had windows or gates you could look through to see the coffins covered in a thick blanket of dust and old flower remains. Walking around this maze of coffins was kinda creepy but it was amazing to see! Some of them dated as far back as the 1840s. Our last ...
Buenos Aires, Argentina kate22... that excited to visit MALBA, since I knew of its reputation for showcasing contemporary art - but I had another reason for visiting, and that's the cafe inside the museum. It was highly rated by the same food critic whose advice we took when deciding to go to Tomo I in BA, and Puerto Fuy in Santiago. If it was anything like those two, it would be an incredible experience, and perhaps there would even be a hostess as lovely as ...
Buenos Aires, Capital Federal District, Argentina pwongBack in Buenos Aires. Spent 3 days and nights here being a tourist. Walked around for a few hours each day taking photos of the famous monuments, statues, and buildings. On Saturday night I went out to see a Tango-Cena Show, which both guidebooks (LonelyPlanet and Footprints) describe as touristy and overpriced. I however found it to be quite entertaining and not a bad ...
