We got up early, which absolutely killed me as I hadn't been well the night before! We flagged a taxi to take us to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. All the books and internet tell you to get to the facility early as the pandas eat early then sleep most of the day, feeding again in the afternoon. In the evening we had ANOTHER Tibetan party night where we watched a show of dancers and singers. At the end Neil got thrust on stage and found himself in a tug of war competition! To be honest, it just made me wish for a really good curry...

We went back to Lazybones which was one ...

... made them happy by giving them the cheezyest of smiles and even the odd piece sign. When I was left alone I got to enjoy the lovely calm temple. With the smell on incense and the relaxing Chinese music, I was in my own little world, left to wonder the grounds. It had the true feel of serenity and I was also pleasantly surprised by the tortoise and frogs in one of the ponds.

I went to the Tomb of Wang Jian (an above ground tomb chamber) which was ...

... Chengdu just to break the journey up. As far as short stops go Chengdu is probably one of the best places we could have picked as it is home to China’s Giant Panda Breeding Research Center and Sanctuary. There used to be a huge population of Giant Pandas in China but due to the destruction of their habitat and hunting they’re numbers are so low that they are now considered critically endangered; there are only 1500 left in the wild and 500 in captivity. The Pandas ...
