... a tree trunk bridge & going through the bamboo forest, but turned back just before the fright fork that would have got me to other swimming holes.
Finally back on route, found the falls but the river was so swollen after recent rains I was dubious about going into the main flow & getting washed down to the lower pool from which there was no way out except down. Went in at the smaller side falls which were more sedate.
... figured it was a fuel issue. Now, a few days later, we relize the problem was not Wesley but bad fuel. White smoke, which we were blowing, is a sign of too much water in the fuel. Of course we had to get the bad Diesel right before going over the Moutain of Death! Luckily Wesley is running fine now.
That night we parked in the middle of a pineapple field own buy yours truly, Del Monte. I never thought we would be enjoying Del Monte for it's beautiful sunset's!
Just a quick blog to keep you up to date
Had to change plans as there was no space at Sirena Ranger Station. Margarita was able to organise alternative route into Corcovado
Got Marvi bus to Sierpe. Stayed in good cabinas and had excellent meal in their restaurant
We arrived Sunday afternoon via taxi which was cheaper than a shuttle service. Great ride-great driver. The place we are staying at is actually a wildlife reserve again but it is in a transitional forest between rain and dry forest so the wildlife is quite a bit different and we are closer to the central highlands than we were so it is less humid but still nice and hot. The place is huge-would take a good hour to get from one end to the other ...
Jaco, Province of Puntarenas, Costa Rica mk123There was a swell the past few days, and that meant some nasty rides...particularly when you don't really know what you're doing! Fortunately, yesterday was a good day for the old man on the sea - no wipeouts, much easier time getting past the break, and fewer close outs (when the waves crash all at once). Today was even better, except for the 2nd ride, when I nearly killed myself and ...
Jaco, Costa Rica court0... he is living in an apartment type thing, which is soon going to be rented out but they are still working on developing it. there is a long and very steep driveway that you have to go up, and then there are two different buildings, one that has apartments and one that has a pool and places to hang out and both which have amazing views of san jose!! i was shocked and very very jealous! anyways, later that night, (friday) at like 11:30 ...
Jaco, Costa Rica maiamuffin... same day all the way down to Jaco, Costa Rica which is where I am writing this from now. We spent today driving into San Jose to get Troys rear tire fixed as it is still giving him trouble. Hopefully it will last the trip, weŽll see. Got stopped again by the traffic cops, but we have our speil down well, so this time it only cost us 4 bucks each! I love the system down here! WeŽre off to Dominical here in Costa Rica tomorrow, then on to Panama. IŽll write more then. Cheers! Doug
Jaco, Costa Rica dstrp... getting inside of the sets to catch a smaller wave and trying not to get in the impact zone of the larger ones. We both catch waves in and view from the shore the heavy conditions we have just run from. That evening we head to the closest bar/restaurant and murder some juicy burritos, we meet Will, an 18 yr old kid from the US who is near the end of a 4 month trip in Costa Rica. After watching him the next day, we see he is a damn good surfer and its no surprise that he regularly ...
Dominical, Costa Rica soul_surfista... The table is set with a nice tablecloth, cloth napkins, and porcelain plates. After lunch we walk his little farm. He has a well for water and grows fruits of all kinds (oranges, limes, avocados, and bananas), as well as coffee plants, corn and cashews; a vegetarian's delight. We pass by his outhouse. It must be 50 yds from his house! Thats a long way to go for natures call at night when it is dark. I ask why so far and he tells me he was going to build his ...
