Happy Birthday !

... young population.
Met Elias at the hostel (Hi !) who was very kind and showed me around. Too bad I was too tired to really enjoy the nightclubs...

Next day, my plane for Bogota took off at 3:50pm. I accidentally broke a piece inside the -cheap-plane, and was kindly asked to not destroy it during the flight ^^.

I like pina coladas, and getting sunburt. bad.

... sold out of tickets for the first class bus, leaving us 2 options; take the 3rd class bus leaving a few hours later or spend the night. We chose to spend the night.

I chose a hotel next to the bus station that cost about double what we had budget for, but it had air con, cable and wifi so I couldn’t complain. After a quick snack of vegetarian tacos I dragged Milli to the shopping mall, which turned out to be about 2 kilometres further away than I remember seeing on ...

Mexico City, Mexico

Dave and I went on a quest today to find the haunted Island of the Dolls. We caught the overground for over an hour out of the city. This is when the size of the city hit me. For the entire trip every street we passed was busy. There were people everywhere, there were shops for everything and every shop was always full of people. There were trains every few minutes and each one was always busy ...

Chichen Itza and Tulum, Take II

... of this for 25 pesos. We had the cenote to ourselves until a backpacker from Israel came along.

Time was short and we had a schedule to keep. We negotiated a 40 pesos taxi ride back to the ADO station in Valladolid to purchase a ticket on the 1:05 ADO bus to Tulum town. We didn't realize until later that if you asked the bus driver to drop you off at the ruinas he would have done so as there was an ADO stop on the access ...

Tulum - White sand and an empty wallet

... to look at all the fish swimming around in their own little jungle oasis. It was an amazing place, like a swimming pool in the middle of the jungle. I could see the tunnel that lead out to the sea but I didn´t go too near it´s dark opening for fear of what lurked within. On the sea side, our guide and I dived to the entrance of the cenote, where large fish danced in the mixture of fresh and salt water. The sea took on a strange color as the too mixed ...

Tulum- Beaches of Blinding White

... location directly on the Caribbean coastline, affording uninterrupted panoramic views of the sea and white sand beaches. Whilst the ruins are definitely worth a visit, be prepared to share the experience with thousands of others. We literally had to wrestle ourselves into the prime photo spots which, whilst it did not ruin (excuse the pun) the experience, it certainly did detract from it and we were more than happy to leave the hoards to fight it out after only being there an hour.

Monstrously large metropolis Mexico City - Part 2

... came to Mexico in exile ... Trotsky also had an affair with Kahlo. You can go around their "Blue House" one of the places where they (and Trotsky and his wife) lived and see various memorabilia of them both. Coyoacan is a very pleasant suburb and in contrast to Mexico City centre with its peaceful park full of squirrels (the Viveros or "nurseries) , nice colonial buildings and main plazas where there were market stalls and street performers on the Saturday afternoon. On ...

... easily a train pulls in so jump on - the sign we want has an arrow in that direction. First stop realise we are going hte wrong way... back again. Then nearly miss our correct stop until the doors start to shut. Doing well we think. The next 2 lines were without incidend! As for Mexico city... staying in historic centre, very impressive place... shame about the rain!
