So, we came in Utila on Wednesday afternoon, thinking of spending two days there: one for diving and other to relax and spare some money. All the plans went "al traste" when we decided to do a diving course. We decided ourselves for the "paradise divers" school, not so much because it was cheaper as because we liked the atmosphere there. ... pressure. When they dive down too deep, they can seriously injure themselves and significantly shorten their life span. Another negative aspect is that they will stop coming back to these areas and then there really will be no more whale shark encounters for anyone to enjoy. ... to stay on in Utila. His time in La Ceiba was essentially done anyways as he was scheduled to return to Guatemala to continue with his volunteering efforts. One thing that I was sure of was that I truly was not looking forward to the boat ride back to La Ceiba. If it was going to be nearly as rocky as the passage to the island then that was going to be trouble. But oddly enough, as I sat there in my seat on the boat for the return journey, I fell asleep.

We stayed 5 days on Utila, one of the 3 Bay Islands and it was definitely a highlight of our travels. We passed our open water dive course, which took 4 days to complete. The water is the clearest i have ever seen and the sea life amazing. Our instructor, Michiel, was very patient with us and he did a very good job. Diving is harder than i thought! ... big event they decide to kick me (ME!) of the stage to twirl around with their supergay fireshow, which fair enough is entertaining for half an hour but not 15 hours. I do not kick a fuss, I mean those poor people already have it hard being hippies and stinking and all but when one of them dares to charge me money just so I can borrow her scissors to cut a bracelet...well...all niceness goes out of the window ...

After a long bus ride to La Ceiba on the coast of Honduras, we took a ferry to Roatan in the Bay Islands, where we were to spend the next week. Highlights - The town of West End, where we stayed. ... to be sure. We were swimming with the world's largest fish. And by the time I became un-stunned, it was gliding off and so was Ben -swimming right next to it!!! I took a dive back under our boat and was greeted with a full frontal of the mighty beast swimming right at me, Ben at it's side. And there you have it. I frickin' love this travelling lark, I can wake up when I want, I don't have to work (ha ha ha!), I get to listen to Bob Marley whilst looking at the Caribbean...life is indeed good!
