... win. Once the games were over, we went to a wicked bar on a rooftop that had a little dock with a wading area, it was awesome! The power went out again, so we all piled back in the truck and went to a place with a generator for one more drink before the 5 of us walked back down the sandy street to our cabin.

Mon June 1
With our course down, we could finally sleep in today (and after last night, it was welcome!) Once we got moving, we set off to Rudys Restaurant for some of ...
West End, Bay Islands, Honduras lindsaymSo, we came in Utila on Wednesday afternoon, thinking of spending two days there: one for diving and other to relax and spare some money. All the plans went "al traste" when we decided to do a diving course. We decided ourselves for the "paradise divers" school, not so much because it was cheaper as because we liked the atmosphere there. The other scholls are too "perfect" and ..sorry if somebody feels bad but..too much "gringo" atmosphere. I don't feel like there, neither Alasne ...
Utila, Bay Islands, Honduras ncirauqu... pressure. When they dive down too deep, they can seriously injure themselves and significantly shorten their life span. Another negative aspect is that they will stop coming back to these areas and then there really will be no more whale shark encounters for anyone to enjoy. If those people had respected the laws, they probably would have had an encounter that lasted more than 30 seconds. We can't blame the tourists of course, they don't ...
Utila, Bay Islands, Honduras ellisa_5... to stay on in Utila. His time in La Ceiba was essentially done anyways as he was scheduled to return to Guatemala to continue with his volunteering efforts. One thing that I was sure of was that I truly was not looking forward to the boat ride back to La Ceiba. If it was going to be nearly as rocky as the passage to the island then that was going to be trouble. But oddly enough, as I sat there in my seat on the boat for the return journey, I fell asleep.
Utila, Bay Islands, Honduras matsamuelWe stayed 5 days on Utila, one of the 3 Bay Islands and it was definitely a highlight of our travels. We passed our open water dive course, which took 4 days to complete. The water is the clearest i have ever seen and the sea life amazing. Our instructor, Michiel, was very patient with us and he did a very good job. Diving is harder than i thought! First you have to get used to breathing under water, and then you have to ...
Utila, Bay Islands, Honduras luciecox... big event they decide to kick me (ME!) of the stage to twirl around with their supergay fireshow, which fair enough is entertaining for half an hour but not 15 hours. I do not kick a fuss, I mean those poor people already have it hard being hippies and stinking and all but when one of them dares to charge me money just so I can borrow her scissors to cut a bracelet...well...all niceness goes out of the window ...
Utila, Bay Islands, Honduras nataschabAfter a long bus ride to La Ceiba on the coast of Honduras, we took a ferry to Roatan in the Bay Islands, where we were to spend the next week. Highlights - The town of West End, where we stayed. It has a beautiful little bay with crystal clear water and white sand, lots of small shops, restaurants and dive companies. - For Greg, getting his PADI open water dive licence. - The amazingly beautiful nearby beach at West Bay ...
West End, Honduras gregandjane... to be sure. We were swimming with the world's largest fish. And by the time I became un-stunned, it was gliding off and so was Ben -swimming right next to it!!! I took a dive back under our boat and was greeted with a full frontal of the mighty beast swimming right at me, Ben at it's side. And there you have it. Our dives that day were great but this non-diving adventure wins out as the top experience of the day, probably the month ...
West End, Honduras boatubia... the 4th of July. Ben was well on his way to becoming a pirate sporting a full beard and some crazy hair, he even brought home some Rum. Maybe it was our recent purchase of Pirates of the Caribbean III Fin del Mundo. We've finally found a dive school; this spawned a morphing of Pirate Ben into SCUBA Ben who now sports a clean face, a cropped mop. We made our first dives this week starting with a refresher course since it had been awhile. Another change is the ...
West End, Honduras boatubia... Bine, if we leave at the same time. Then I'll head to Copan to see the ruins, after that I think I'll head to Nicaragua. I may see some more places in Honduras but I'm not sure now...I'll decide as I go. I frickin' love this travelling lark, I can wake up when I want, I don't have to work (ha ha ha!), I get to listen to Bob Marley whilst looking at the Caribbean...life is indeed good! Right, well I'm off now to laze about in the sun! Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
