... the euro. I can't blame them really. From what i could gather, Poland was becoming more and more expensive, yet wages hadn't kept pace. It was a similar story in most of eastern Europe. The barbecue Anita's uncle put on that afternoon was by far the best meal I have had in years. It was just barbied bits of flesh, but the meat was so tender and delicious. Something hard to find back in London.

Three days went quickly, and before we knew it ...

Jelenia Gora & Magical Mountains

Jelenia Góra ('deer mountain') is about couple of hours south from Wroclaw (trains or buses). It is close to the Karkonosze mountain range running along the Polish-Czech border. Only 10-15 km of the town there are few ski resorts such as Karpacz, Szklarska Poreba.
Nice, colorful Market Square, Cyprian Kamil Norwid Theatre, Saint Cross Church, the Old Town are just few places worth of seeing.

... little tent (and man, do I mean little) is not only really really little, but it is also really waterproof. And I can honestly say that it is actually a decent tradeoff. But actually, my whole point is to answer a question that has come up a few times: What am I reading when I stretch out at night in our really really teeny tine tent? I find that good books are like gold when traveling. Despite their weight, I try to always have at ...

... of the journey we did by a payable way of transportation. Ahh, again, we made thousands of km, mostly via hitchhiking! We did something impossible (hitchhiking in Greece), met individuals that showed us how to not judge people from their look (the Greek monk, the Bosnian family), we saw gorgeous places, but also the places making us concerned; we travelled through 10 countries and like 6 capitals. We spent so much ...

... sloping plateau of the Karkonosz range. It was still quite cool, so after taking some photos of the view and the nearby small wooden chapel we made our way back down. Although we had dinner in the centre of Karpacz, we decided to return the next morning for a leisurely stroll. It was a beautiful sunny day, and given we'd done what I wanted to do the previous day, the next few hours activities were Ania's. After having some lunch and ice-cream we got back in the car and drove a few ...

Trutnov

9/10/07 Day 71 Today we travelled into the Czech Republic to a town called Trutnov just across the boarder near the alps. it's a cold day but the roads were gratefully uneventful and we arrive in the afternoon. Having no currency we headed off to find a bank and the shops, we get out 2000 Zakona and only get 2 notes, the problem is we have no idea what the exchange is, and can only guess. We do the shopping for just over 1000z and wonder if it was a ...

... I had a cold, the funny thing is that everyone seemed amazed that I dared to tell the driver to stop the heating, which was burning like hell! I made my farewell to Daniella as she walked me to the bus station by the afternoon, I would surely have loved to stay longer... sadly I had to go. It felt like if were to meet again soon, or that it was just an au revoir. A deep hug and I hopped in the bus. Sigh! I loved my time here!

Wollmierz train station

The day after crossing back into Poland, we stopped in Wollmierz. If the Eagle's were European, this would have been their Hotel California. Greeted by smiles and tea, unfortunately no pink champagne, we toured this defunct train station now offering daily departures in puppet theatre, oil painting, and welding junk. . After eating the special cake, we were offered to sleep in "Dracula's guest house". We checked out at 7 am despite the voices down the corridor.

... We decided to eat at the airport, which was good, because we got lost and were pulled over by the Czech Police (who wanted payment in Czech money right then, which we didn't have, so they let us go rather than hauling us to the station ... a friend who has lived in Prague suggested it was because the kids were in the car ... I don't know, but I was happy). Finally, we found the road to ...

... I was the only visitor so they sat me down to watch an introductory dvd. Walked round the museum with lots of artifacts and chillingly the gestapo photos of the 50 executed. Obviously they didn't speak English so I pointed outside and the lady got out a map directing me to tunnel Harry. I couldn't have map so had to photograph it and go off that. 1.5k walk but well worth it, still some remains of buildings and the route of the ...
