A Wonderland for Walkers

... meet up, we headed for the high-speed ICE train of the Deutsche Bahn that would get us to Frankfurt in no time at all.

Pam and Glenn Said:

We both enjoyed this medieval town dating back to 1071. We walked the old town within the walls and saw vistas of the town from the old castle. We enjoyed great espresso, one of Chad’s favorites at a little café. We now get to ride the DB train to Frankfurt.

Nuremburg and Glass Blowing Excursions

... onto the fun…

The Tuesday before out Berlin trip, our group took a day trip to Nuremburg, which is only about an hour away by train. It was a lot of fun. Nuremburg is a very cute town with a lot to see. When we got there, we went to a Nazi museum and were supposed to have an hour and a half there, but were cut short about 45 minutes into the visit when 2 men walked through the museum stating "Fire, Exit." This was not urgent or anything, just a "oh, there is a fire, you ...

A Quiet Sunday

... and took buses to Nuremberg. We visited the Zeppelin Field where the big Nazi Rallies were held and the Hall of Justice where the Nuremberg Trials took place. Bought a souvenir pin at Market Square and had cokes at a bistro while waiting for the bus to take us back to the ship.

Go Icetigers Go!

... the game. First of all, the germans know how to cheer!!! An arena seating maybe 10000 with more cheering then a Habs game! Each player was announced and all the fans chanted their last name! They had intricate drumming and clapping cheers! It was really fun to get into even though we couldn’t always follow or understand! By the end we were swinging our scarves around and shouting the players names ...

Beware the falling Acorns!

From Munich to Nuremberg is a nice short drive and luckily Germany doesn't use road tolls (They are so efficient they don’t need tolls…hehe)! We chose a nice little campsite just outside the city! After going for a walk we also discovered we were next to the Football (soccer) stadium and the Hockey Arena. On our first night there was a football game and Nuremburgs local team has one hell of a ...

I'm tired of train travel

... us in bad moods.

On the way to Rothenburg we had to change trains twice. The last train was the smallest I’ve been on yet—only two cars but very nice ones. It was on a spur line that just went over to Rothenburg and back.

When we got to Rothenburg, we walked 15 minutes from the train station to the Gastehaus Raidel, where we were staying. We each had a single room, on different floors, and they were definitely the best value I’ve had on this ...

Nuremburg, briefly.

... our stuff. The sun had just set as we rang the front door bell and waited to check in. A slow moving, gray haired lady greeted us and gave us our keys, and that was it, no forms to sign, or deposits for keys. This was going to be a good couple days.

We had seperate single rooms here, with sinks in the room, and a bath/shower on the hall. I was on the third floor, Erin on the fourth, up a creaky, ancient staircase. I stowed my gear and went to check ...

Still @ home in Nuremberg

Hey there .. even though our trip hasn't started yet, I couldn't wait to prepare our Travel Blog Site. Our trip is coming closer and closer. We are all already excited about it. :) Kimie, Signe and I haven't seen each other since the end of September 2008 when I was visiting Aarhus (Denmark ...

Nuremberg

... on for a while, but clearly I learned a lot. It was very interesting. Nuremberg is also the place where the Nazi leaders were tried and convicted in a court of international law after WWII. We didn't go see the courtroom but there was an exhibit about it. After the museum, we headed for the Old Town, where we saw a craftsman courtyard and a few large churches. There was a really cool hospital that overlooks the river and a nice market square where we ...

IKEA

... think it was the mind-numbingly vastness of IKEA that drained me. Anyhow, spent the afternoon putting my bed together, and the better part of today unpacking the things I brought with me and stocking shelves with dishes, that fun sort of settling in. I still have to make the big grocery store run where I fill up on the basics, like sugar and spices, but that can wait until I'm going to be there full time. I am not planning ...
