Verona

... porridge with mushrooms and mozzarella which was sooo yumm, and then tripe and polenta which was also good.
They like their polenta here...

Checked out Juliette's House as it was included in the Verona card we got, but it was pretty **** and not worth paying for separately. She never even lived there...

Verona is a nice little town, but 1 day was plenty enough and time to move on to Milan

"but soft what light through yonder window breaks"

... of undying love to each other. Makes for quite a sight really. There were nice markets there and a sort of mini colosseum which is still used today for concerts.

There was also a statue of Juliet which is meant to bring you good luck if you rub her right breast. Her right breast is very polished!

Jumped back on the coach to the next stop!

The American holiday in a foreign country

... most of her family had gathered to roast chestnuts (on an open fire). I ate so much, and I think that was the night I OD'd on chestnuts. I met even more members of her family which I didn't think was even possible. Now that I only have a couple weeks left I feel like I've finally adjusted to life here and am actually enjoying myself. There are a couple places left I'd like to get to, and I'm not sure when that'll happen. But, I can say now, life is good!

Venice for a day

An early morning as we were heading to Venice for the day which was a bit over an hour by train from Verona. Both Greg and I had been before and it hadn't been our favourite place, but we wanted the girls to at least see it. We had warned them that we wouldn’t be going on a gondola as it is over 75 Euros ($150 AUD) for a ride. Katelyn said that we had already been on a gondola ride in Las Vegas so we didn’t have to ...

Lake Garda

... ants nest. not the best pitch we have ever had. We spend the first day lounging by the lake, this part of the lake is dirty and nothing like the romantic picturesque images we were looking forward to. nevertheless it was relaxing the food was good and the beer was cold.
what more could I ask for?
a pitch in the shade away from the ants and the children, too much to ask?

Montagues and Capulets

... tours full of teenage Aussies stops overnight for their Venice stay .Oh great so many drunken Aussies and the noise was winding up and it was only 9pm!!! Wayne being the pragmatist went to the office and arranged us a bungalow on site ( read donga with 2 single beds nothing else) for the stay which ended up being cheaper than the campsite (go figure) so we settled into our little room no mozzies and life was good.

Romeo, Romeo wherefore art thou? - Verona

... good, we had taken time to look at the people going into the same expensive seats we have tickets for the night before and we were quite happy we were doing Scotland proud! It was more than we had hoped for. We both agree that it was worth the traveling just for that. Tosca was fab as was Cavaradossi. Scarpia, a bit comic book evil but still great. The sets were stunning. Explosions. 40 feet high statues. Amazing ...

A Weekend with Water

... at all uncomfortable with the idea. In the town we saw Romeo's house, Juliet's balconey, the arena, the palace, the location where Dante wrote his books and the main square. Since Romeo and Juliet never actually existed, the houses were "possible" residences. I was surprised by how many people visited Juliet's balconey, it was overrun with people and he said it was a slow day. The wall along the passage way leading to the balconey ...

Verona

... in fact, the ampitheatre currently houses Verona's Opera. From the ampitheatre, I headed up the main shopping high street. Here I got great views of classic Italian buildings and the street, which looked like it was inlaid with marble as opposed to asphalt. I wanted to find my next tourist stop, Juliet's House. After some search around the plaza by the town hall, I found the house further down the street. For being a touristy spot, the ...
