... 200 other backpackers all waiting outside the gates in near silence. Just as the sun comes over the mountains, a tiny cloud blots it for about 10 seconds, at which point said Aussie says in a really thick accent loud enough for all to hear "Well that really f*cked that sunrise up hey...?"<br><br>[It made me laugh anyway]<br><br>So that was Cuzco, before that we were in Arequipa where we climbed down Colca Canyon ...
La Paz, Bolivia robzilla... the three women followed them out and onto the street. A car with 2 well dressed men drove up, and Jesus yelled at the group to make a run for it back to the hotel....and everyone complied. Luckily the club was only a block and a half from the hotel, so everyone arrived home safe. Everyone dodged a bullet that night, except for Fraser. Having made out with one of the local man-traps, he will await his STD tests with some worry....
La Paz, Bolivia srossb1971... and eventually knew if I didn't fall asleep soon, there would be a liquid mess working its way about the isle. Kat was quicker with that idea, and already asleep. <br><br>Awoke a number of times to screeching tires, and looking up to see a steep cliff and guardrail less than 20 feet away. This guy is the most accomplished bus driver ever. On the verge of falling back asleep, I actually remember feeling air between me and my bed on one sharp drop. <br><br>Sleep the entire way ...
La Paz, Bolivia lexicon.... I decided to stay my first night at the world's highest microbrewery! It's also a hostel, though rather overpriced, but it was good to try some nice beer and great to be back in a bustling city again. I must mention that on my arrival in the city it was dark and the bus didn't go to the main bus station for some reason. However, there were some police around who helped me with my stuff, asked me where I was going, hailed me a licensed cab and negotiated a cheap fare for ...
La Paz, Bolivia lisa.gillespie... overtook the cars and lorries using the road, still we held back a little keeping our fingers firmly planted on the bikes back brakes.<br><br>This first section gave both of us a lot of confidence, however the second section was a mixture of up and downhill sections, which at nearly 4,000m above sea level left your body screaming for more oxygen, but we did it without having to climb back into the mini van following us.<br><br>When we reached the final gravel section ...
La Paz, Bolivia kmtour09... fella Gaston. Was quite an interesting chap in that he hated football and disliked Mate, the Argentinian herbal tea drinking ritual, sound fella though and his English was far superior to my Spanish. After sleeping through breakfast with a pounding head we took a stroll around the lake and booked our tickets to Arequipa (Peru) for the following day. Had another 3 course lunch although I got more than I bargained for when I found a drawing pin in my Spag Bowl, no tip for you fella!<br>
La Paz, Bolivia garyjampot... most of the traffic now uses a new road, frequent landslides mean traffic is often diverted back onto the Death Road. It is single lane width being only 10 feet wide in places. <br><br>When vehicles need to pass one another, they virtually cling to the outside of the road with their wheels inches from sheer drops of almost 2000 feet in places. One of the local road rules specifies that the downhill driver never<br>has the right of way and must move to the outer ...

La Paz, Bolivia hallouwe... you´re looking at until you can make out the unborn llama´s head! <br><br>Other weird handicrafts include clay figurines of the devil with a large appendage - the devil is worshipped (or appeased) by Bolivian miners, who believe the devil has control of the hell beneath the earth (the mines themselves) and thus make offerings to him, in order that they may survive and have success in the mines!<br><br>La Paz is the highest capital city in the world ...
La Paz, La Paz, Bolivia atullgupta... La Paz is chocked full of wonderful and colorful markets. The city is full of inconsistencies - women wearing traditional dress and "bowler" hats sell fruit and hand-crocheted garments outside modern glass high rises. I'm sorry to say I didn't get a single shot of one of these women. I've always been reluctant to photograph locals and I never got a chance to sneak one in. The Witches Market is full of every possible ...
