It has been beautiful here and I have learned so much, but all good things must come to an end. See you all next week I hope.

It was hard to pass up the various chocolate products when the smell just filled the air. There was everything from chocolate beer to chocolate “pills” to chocolate pasta!!

Heaven.

I’ll update you soon,

Siara
Perugia, Umbria, Italy siarakelyndali... absenthe.

Next we decided to explore the surrounding village before entering the crowds above. Perugia is a beautiful midieval village and very well preserved. Incorporated into this ancient setting are some very modern things like an underground moving walkway, taking you through the mazez below the pallazo. On this day, there were special booths set up for children and chocolate vendors.
<br ...
Perugia, Umbria, Italy davefremlandSo Licia and I both had to work on Saturday morning so we decided to meet at her house when we finished and then drive up to Montecastrilli for the night. The weather was nice and as it was late afternoon, we had little traffic.

It was a pleasant 2 hour drive to Montecastrilli. This is a small village near the center of ...
Perugia, Umbria, Italy davefremland... the pool but the second day we went back into Perugia and had a look around before catching a train to Assisi. The train station isn't in the centre of Perugia, so we had to catch a mini-metro to the top of the hill which gave us a great view before exploring the town on the way back down. We spent the afternoon in Assisi, a short train ride from Perugia.
Assisi is a major destination for millions of pilgrims due to its religious ...
Perugia, Umbria, Italy steveandwhitney... another 10 euro in credits and started pumping it in. After about 6 euros of gas the pump shut off. I tried a couple more times but the pump kept shutting off and I didn't think the tank was full. Then some gas came back out of the top of the tank and I looked down and something was dripping from the tube running under the car to the gas tank. I touched it and smelt it - gas. So I guess it was full, oops. I left upset that I burned 3 euros in credits. I have a ...
Assisi, Umbria, Italy mavsqb1... up being too tired to last much past 1 or 2am. But we were at this bar next to the Duomo called Astor last night and there were a ton of other kids from different programs. There was a huge line in the bathroom so, in between trying to figure out that the sink turns on by stepping on a pedal on the floor, we were all talking and Georgetown has a campus here too. I go out and am talking to a friend when I hear my name being called. I turned ...
Assisi, Italy eroy13... and spent most of the afternoon there. It is a really nice, old city. Climbed up to an ancient castle and the church that had been built for it. Had dinner at the hotel Friday night, cooked by the wife of the owner. Delicious!! After breakfast Saturday morning, we headed out for Umbria and our villa on the outskirts of Assisi. We had a nice relaxing drive, stopping along the way to explore another neat old castle that we saw way up on a hill. The name of it ...
Assisi, Italy ibgrama... I saw a monk dressed in brown robes praying in one of the pews. Sometimes I forget that these grand churches are still churches, and should be respected as such. Seeing the monk made me placid as I sat in a pew and took in the amazing detail of the shrine built to a Greek goddess. The main alter was intricately carved in gold and blue; frescos decorated the walls. The ceiling towered four stories high (it probably wasn't four stories, but it sure felt like it), but ...
Assisi, Italy dreamkeepr18... groups all over the top of the mouintain. The views out over Umbria must be spectacular in clear weather. We could see the late afternoon sun reflecting off Lake Trasimeno 30 km away, however most of Umbria was shrouded in haze. Even the mountains were very hazy. I can only assume that Umbria and Tuscany, being valleys surrounded by mountains, suffers from temperature inversions which trap the heat haze (and a little polution). The high humidity must be a ...
