... shop that was unattended but open (as in, not locked up) so we helped ourselves to cold beer, coke and two bottles of wine for dinner...leaving a list of what we took and the money required to pay for it..felt like thieves but in fact were not because we did pay for it.. After a nice hotel breakfast, we travelled by bus to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port (yes, that is the name of a city - complete with a mouthful of hyphens) to experience a farmers market, a small taste of the "Camino de Santiago" trek and a nice Basque lunch from the Navarro region. The town is at the lower slopes of the Pyrenees and the green hillsides reminded me of Sonoma with larger mountains in the background. Good local wine, olives ...

France again.

A long but interesting travel day. Took a long time to get out of Bilbao- it has Spain's longest tunnel, especially if you travel it twice! The Basque Country of Northern Spain is very different from Spain in general.
