The End (for now)

... We arrived to Mobile with just enough time to prep the boat before departing for Vegas the following afternoon! After a few days of Vegas with my folks, we headed back with them to Texas for Thanksgiving. A very happy ending to this leg of our migration to the lower latitudes with Hawkswood!

More adventures are in the works...stay tuned!

Never Trust an Animal with a Mask

... the local wildlife I headed over to the campsite. The tent was set up in no time which allowed me to explore the park. Found a few critters on the water, especially those little crabs that have the big claw. As I get ready for bed the raccoons are coming to the site begging for food. I remember the advise that the ranger gave me, "Don't feed them just make a lot of noise". So I holler a little, bang some pots and then crawl ...

Down Around Biloxi

... another LaQuinta in Biloxi. I have been very impressed with the updates and cleanliess of the locations we have stayed.

Alex continues to enjoy hotel life. The world is his playground...or his resting place. The girls steal the show everywhere we go. I trimmed their faces before leaving Brownsville to keep them neat and pretty. Poodles must always look their best.

Day 30

... fills and flushes. The pleasant smell has him running for cover at various times. Mid procedure, I depart for lunch with Red given Ted has no interest in Red's fine dining. Would have been funny to see Ted and Red go at it. I think Ted takes him - he's working out and probably has sewage anger. Unless of course Red (Verne) drops him with an apron swat to the throat and rapidly applies a cane-legged figure four. Ted drives us ...

Day 29

Rob Troke entry: Day 29, May 31 We head to Johnny's RV camp a few miles past Mobile to regroup. Johnny's dad, Red greets us in an apron at the lead trailer. He's the cook in the little country buffet restaurant they operate. We park way at the back of the camp close to a stocked fishing lake/large pond. The shower and toilet shack is way back up at the front of the campground. The concrete toilet stalls are bizarre in that they are only wide ...

Day 4 - Biloxi, MS and the Hebert Family

... Lloyd and Steph are friends of ours from Chicago where Dan and Lloyd worked together at PSINet and Lloyd was in our wedding. They have two beautiful little girls - Marissa (4, almost 5 going on 30) and Nicelle (1 and 1/2). Lloyd is the BEST cook and did not disappoint on this trip. We have a long standing disagreement on which seafood cooking method is better - Lloyd prefers the "boil" while I swear by steaming. But I gotta tell you - I was ...

New Orleans quickly please

What a noisy night that was. There are plenty of people living in motels around Houston, maily the refugees from the hurricanes who do not seem to want to go back. We heard on the radio that the state insurance was warning that they would not endlessly pay for people to live in motels and that they needed to find a place to move to. We sadly had to move on and leave Texas into newer states (Louisiana) and added to the ...

Day 157 Panama City Beach - Dauphin Island-Alabama

Day 157 Panama city Beach Florida - Dauphin Island Alabama We left this nice gulf Side town to head along the highway beside the Gulf of Mexico, This took us alongside an incredible amount of Condos and hotels built right on the sea shore, again not open beaches for the public. It appeared to have more public access points along this route than we have noticed before, but no car parks, so it is a little puzzling. We also managed to travel through a ...

... built, are gorgeous and a fair old size. And in the centre of Biloxi are several casino hotels, also looking pristine. Add to this that the roads, kerbs and beach access are all being smartened up and it really does have a lot going for it - until the next hurricane.

Our map told us that the US 90 bridge across Biloxi Bay was left impassable by Katrina and was currently being reconstructed. We didn't know how up to date that information was, so as we sat waiting at a set of ...

Island Eats Are A Treat

Though Dauphin Island, Alabama may be best known for its sugar-white beaches with rolling dunes, the emerald green Gulf water and a mandatory laid-back state-of-mind, another of the town's treasures makes a visit to this small barrier island even more tasty . . . the food. The recently opened Oar House Restaurant serves up made-to-order sandwiches, thick burgers, and homemade soups in an airy nautical setting on Bienville Boulevard ...
