Ladeira do Carmo, 17, Pelourinho Salvador, State of Bahia, Brazil, 55-71-3326-2426
We arrive in Salvador early morning and are met by Louis a friendly driver who speaks good English. The drive should only take 30 minutes but we get stuck as peaceful demonstrators fill the streets...there are threatened bank closures here...a fall out from the credit crunch ...and the people of Bahia are striking in protest. We eventually make it into the Pelourinho...the historical center of Salvador where we are staying in the stylish Poussada "Studio De Carmo". This is owned by some Itali...

Salvador, State of Bahia, Brazil jpsadventures... area, so you can pay 5 centavos to quickly get from one region to another. Another major attraction of this region is the prevelance of Capoeira. Capoeira is an afro-brazilian form of martial-arts, mixed with dance. It was developed by the slaves, and it's very low to the ground, and dance-like. Many of the things that make Capoeira truly unique came from the fact that the slaves had to conceal what they were doing from their masters. On the 2nd night, we ...
Salvador, State of Bahia, Brazil ryanflemington... taxi and walking to the hostel I was threatened with death! A guy asked me for a cigarette and I only had one left, so I said I didn't haven't any, with hindsight I should of just handed it over. The guy said to me in perfect English, "I'm gonna kill you later", as I walked passed him with my heavy laden backpack. A pleasant welcome to Salvador!! Something to look forward to this evening. Checked into the hostel feeling slightly worried about the recent death threat. Took my ...

This was apparently the ...
Salvador, State of Bahia, Brazil phileasw... It had a number of interesting exhibits including Taj´s favourite, cannons! There were also a number of other Portuguese weapons. As the sun was setting...well it doesn´t really set it just sort of gets dark very quickly...we arrived at the Mercado Modelo which is the largest handicraft centre in Latin America. Some of the stall owners were trying to do a hard sell but we didn´t buy anything. We had booked tickets to see Balé Folclórico ...

Salvador, Brazil charlyvaness... I found it hard to believe that SAS could call up 2 days before the game and get 400 tickets if the game had ANY importance or significance. Nonetheless, we loaded up the busses at 7:30 and headed off on our hour long drive to the game. Let's just say my skepticism was justified. This was like minor league soccer, the equivalent of rookie league Minor League Baseball in the US. Lawrenceville High School's stadium was bigger than this place. It was ...
Salvador, Brazil hepstein1... Christmas trees, you sometimes forget they come from one of the worlds worst and incomprehensible areas of poverty and death and destruction. From Rio to Porto Seguro was a very uneventful 18 hour bus ride, which turned into a 20 hour bus ride cause we got a burst tyre!!, can you believe that? that´s three flat tyres in one month in my trips! Then a few hours wait in a bus station to catch the 12 hour bus to Salvador de Bahia, where I was going to be for ...
