... to the Battery area. So much renovation of amazing stately homes. Saw bumper sticker, Gut Fish, not Houses.
From Bay St. we could see Fort Sumter way in the distance. We passed on the shuttle boat to take us out there, but we visited the Museum. So much history.
Tomorrow we plan to make the 15 minute drive to Folly Beach, hoping to capture a Pat Conroy feeling.

Our drive south from New Canaan was surprisingly trouble free. We got mobile phone coverage back in the first hour, the bridges at New York were free, probably because a lot of people stayed home, the only thing that was causing others problems was the shortage of gas/petrol. Queues at the service stations on the New Jersey Turnpike were over a mile to get into them to fill up but our hire car started full so it didn't bother us. A phone call to US Airways and ...

We arrived at the Plantation just in time for a video tour. This was something new for us. As you entered the factory, you encountered a 36 inch big screen tv on the wall. The spiel on this "station" lasted about five minutes. As you moved through the factory observation way, you found two more tvs which completed the "tour". ... down and that's not a good feeling - especially in the middle of nowhere.

So when we got to Beaufort

it was a bit of relief to know that we were heading out to open water. Actually some of the Intracoastal felt like you were on the "African Queen" (the old Humphrey Bogart movie)

as we were gliding along it was so quiet and peaceful in the narrow channels, as you will see by the photos.
