    My Birthday!!

A travel blog entry by courtenay on Feb 20, 2013

I had quite a special birthday! I'm counting the day before my birthday as part of the celebration because it was truly spectacular. There are a few temples in town. One of them is a large Siva temple down by the river. There is a main Swami for the temple, Sri Swayamprakasha Sri Sachidananda Saraswathi Mahaswamiji that we had heard was going to be coming at some point who we had to see. The day before my birthday, he was having Darshan (it's an opportunity to ...

Today was Hugo's birthday and we gave him some Nuttela (a prized possession in India) as a present. After breakfast we spent the morning packing our bags which have doubled in ...

    Day 181 IPL at Dharmasala

A travel blog entry by willandclaire on May 19, 2012

We woke up to the sound of Steve excitedly shouting CRICKET! Hooray today is the IPL! We got our taxi at 9am and made it to Dharmasala in good time. Picking up the tickets we realized we might be the only white people in the crowd which would be fun. We decided to get some lunch early as the gates open at 12pm. So we walked up to a restaurant called Center point and decided this would be our meeting point with the gang and the driver. We ate lunch in ...

I have always wanted to head up Dharmasala way with my love of the Dalai Lama and yoga but it was an eventful journey from Haridwar…though my 1st overnight train was actually fine! I wasn’t sure what carriage and climbed into one completed packed with Indians with not a space to move.. worst than peak hour London I was relieved when a guard came to rescue me and took me to my carriage. Very basic and busy but I had only 8 people in ...
