... on we managed to arrive at the Tabatinga airport five ours early. Baring in mind we thought there would be some sort of shop there or cafe, nope. This is the most basic aiport I have ever seen, only flying a plane too and from Manaus three times a week. Not too mention the flight being more like a rollercoster ride than anything, people even started screaming! overall Tabatinga was not a nice place, but no where near as bad as we were expecting. On too Manaus and the ...

... means something quite different to motel in New Zealand.
We settled for a 3 star HOTEL in the city centre - safe parking , good breakfast and a good meal out (with a first night Brasil caiparinga for me). We noted the tidy, even footpaths as we walked to and from tea. No need to watch your footing to avoid missing or irregular cobbles as we had to in Argentina. And no dogs and no doggie doos.

Friday - 640 kms to Mauricio's and Mauricio suggested ...

... malls. The centre reminded me more of a typical Brazilian city; busy, with lots of shops selling suspect goods (i got a Hollister t-shirt for 10 reals {about £3-£4}).
The center has some nice parks with small craft markets and pretty grand cathedral. There is also a theatre, which apparently one of the best outside Sao Paulo city. Next to this there is a restaurant/bar place called Pinguim (Portuguese for penguin), famous for its chopp (a light beer) and some of ...
