Shakespeare & the Cotswold
Another beautiful day--our luck is holding out!
We drove through Robin Hood territory--Sherwood Forest--and learned that he was really a myth :-(
Saw the Coventry Cathedral--a modern cathedral which was rebuilt after the original was destroyed during the WWII bombing blitz.
Then came Shakespeare world. We saw …
Stunning Stratford Upon Avon
This morning I woke up just after 7.30am and Matt and Emma were still asleep. I got up and they woke up soon after. I fed Emma then took her for a bath and had my shower afterwards. Matt then took his turn to shower and we did a bit of packing before we went to breakfast around quarter to nine.
We didn't take too long to eat and came …
Stratford Is AMAZING!!!
Hello Everyone!!!
Hope you are all having a great time back at home! We have been traveling all over, and we are getting tired! Lacey and Cathy are definitely sore from all the walking and going up and down stairs they have been doing. We have been having a great time. We have made it to Stratford-upon-Avon. It is the birthplace of WIlliam …
Friends, Romans, Countrymen, Lend Me Your Ears!
Howdy!!!
Hope you are all having as much fun at home as we have been having here. We made it to my favorite part of the whole trip today! I am not joking, I got to see where William Shakespeare was born, where he died, where his wife lived, and where his mother lived. We even toured the house his daughter lived in. It was absolutely …
Do you think we had a heavy frost.....
Well today we awoke to the coldest day since we arrived and if we had have known better we would have thought it had snowed during the night but it was actually frost......it was that cold last night the fog had frozen and had blanketed the area in a brilliant white frost so I hope you enjoy the ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Holiday Inn Stratford-upon-Avon
Mediocre hotel
We stayed in this hotel for one night only and I was very disappointed. The room was cold when we arrived. There was a very thin quilt on the bed and only one blanket that looked like it had come from an army surplus store. The breakfast was poor and the only tea and coffee available was from a machine and tasted terrible. I'm sure there are better hotels in Stratford.
Shabby hotel and terrible service!
I don't know how it got 4 stars!!!I stayed at this hotel for two nights over Easter 2004 and I wish I hadn't. My room was quite nice however the bathroom was tiny I could not lie down in the bath (and I am only 5feet 4in!) The corridors leading to the rooms are claustrophobic and really shabby. However the worst part of this trip was the service. Throughout my stay I found the staff to be very unfriendly and on a number of occasions rude. The service in the hotels restaurant was appalling. Waiting staff where sparse and when they did serve you they did it very grudgingly! There are a number of hotels in Stratford, don't chose this one!
Great Hotel and Location
This was my first visit to Stratford and the Moat House Hotel. We booked a Crown Room which was excellent. The room had a huge bed and a CD player with a nice view towards the RSC Theatre. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel was excellent. It is in the centre of Stratford right on the river and canal and across the road you will find the Tourist Information Centre. We had a great stay and would not hesitate to return.
Loved it!
The staff is top notch and the hotel amenities are well above average.
Great food and drink.
Nightmare weekend
we had a bad weekend here last month,so bad that we left the hotel a day early although we had paid in full, still waiting to hear from the head office! Ihave stayed in various Moat hotels ALL have been excellent.....maybe this was a one off but I WOULD never stay there again.
Shall I compare thee to a Summer's day?
I spent a couple of nights here very recently and it was very good indeed. Lovely bedrooms (Crown), quiet, huge car park, food very good.
A short walk from the town centre, so it is well situated if you don't want to use your car all the time. Recommended, I would stay there again.
Very good
Super good location, excellent prices, very good rooms including river view. good free breakfast, lots of free parking, very fast check in and check out service. I could not ask for more. We had a very good stay at this hotel.
Extremely friendly staff
Spent a whole week here and could not fault it.Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Will certainly return.
Just wonderful
The other reviewer must have been having a bad day.Stayed here for the 12th time in the last year in transit to meetings.Always good. Usually pretty cheap too.Never any real problems - lovely rooms, helpful staff, river views, gym and sauna, excellent breakfast in pleasing surroundings. The two small problems I have experienced were rectified immediately on contacting reception. I can't think that the reviewer from Herftordshire is representative of the vast majority of guests. The place is great - keep up the good work.
Diabolical!!!
From the moment we checked in things went terribly wrong........wrong sleeping arrangements, poor information, queing for meals in the restaurant for up to 30 mins, had to get your own tea, coffee from a machine which had ran out of water..nobody filled.........left dirty dishes on the table in between meals and to cap it all......the chef sneezing on the food in the restaurant......I HAVE HAD BETTER SERVICE IN DEBENHAMS CAFE!!!!!
