Ribeauville where fish are vegetables.

... I asked why she was not able to serve the salad and pommes sauted without the accompanying meat or fish! She was adamant that this was all that she was prepared to offer. My friend therefore chose not to eat at all. Madam then informed us that all four had to eat or none of us could, insinuating that we would have to leave. At this point I would like to offer my most heartfelt congratulations that obviously Mdm and Msr Thomann are in the happy position of being able to ...

Surprise reunion

... and bought our train tickets home. Mine was round trip but I had to get a ticket for Lincoln. Without the fine attached, it was only 5 Euros. I really wish I had known ahead of time!

I had a really nice day visiting with my brother. I haven't seen him since I left Canada back in October, so it was almost a full year. Wow, time flies! He headed back to Paris and will continue on to Barcelona in a few days so I am a bit jealous - I absolutely love Barcelona!

A Brief Stop in Alsace

... got a salad. Bad idea.

After dinner, we casually strolled through town back to the hotel where we finally got an internet signal. We tried to do some blogging and catch up on life over the pond back home. Once again, during my traditional nighttime shower after completely flooding the bathroom, I went to bed for a very early train to Munich! Oktoberfest, here we come!

The cradle of Europe

... tarte flambée contains only bacon and onions. We decided to take it to the next level where they also add cheese as a topping. It was delicious! We completed our meal with French beer, Kronenbourg, which is everywhere here (though I have drank it in Canada as well). After lunch we started our second audio tour but were tired of walking long before it was completed. We had visited many important buildings outside of the ...

A nice detour

We caught the wrong train and wound up in Gengenbach. While we were waiting for a train back we met a lady who told us the town had a beautiful old-town section. So we went discovering again. After a good look around we stopped at a pub while we were waiting for the next train and got talking to the owner. Turns out he'd been to Australia on holiday, so we had a good time talking to him until it was time to go.

Houses and trucks and scary roads, oh my!

... times in der Schwarzwald (its time I teach you guys some German... and if you are really that dumb and need help, that means Black Forest...) and put them all together at this museum. You can walk around and look in all the houses and it has old farming equipment, old furniture, and information about the different things. Not that I could read most of it though because it was in fact, in german, but seeing the stuff did much of the talking, and I have a ...

... to beat on a frying pan during one song and then use a plastic pineapple filled with some sort of rice to provide the rhythm for another song. It was really a cool environment and mellow music. Since we still had over 3 hours of driving ahead of us for the day, we decided to get the car and head south. But before we did, I was able to convince my mom and Julie that we should stop at the American Cemetery, which was just 5 minutes outside of town. This was the first time I had ...
