Day trip to Brugge

A travel blog entry by whelan_89 on Dec 07, 2014

We woke up this morning and grabbed a train to Brugge- with our student tickets it only cost us about 20euro return (can't quite remember). We had our packed lunch so we had that on the train with us. Brugge was very pretty- I would have much fathered stay here than Antwerp (Antwerp was nice but just a plain clean city). The buildings were just gorgeous! All zig zag shaped roofs and the little cafés ...

We are following the "more unknown Brugge" since we've seen the main sights before. didn't help to be started correctly. a couple of wrong tuns and we are well into the back alleyways and have no clue where we are. But as we are standing on the corner peering at our map, a gentleman walks up and offers to help. He shows us where we are and we tell him where we want ...

As we descended, we noticed a guy sat at a keyboard in the 'loft' who had clearly been providing the melody. ...

... from Platform 14 at 1:05pm. The Eurail pass I have lets me hop onto trains without needing to have a ticket, so I dash over to the crowded platform. I should have checked the screen that hangs over the platform to see where the incoming train was going, but instead, I got on the first train that arrived. It took almost two stops to realize that the train wasn't going to Brugge, but to Leuven. I remembered seeing on the timetable that the train to Leuven was leaving ...

... also served with fries. We felt like we needed some exercise after all this indulgence so we walked a ring road parallel to the canal that rings the old city. As we made our way back to our hotel, we smelled that unmistakable smell of hops and discovered Brugge brewery, called De Halve Maan (The Half Moon). We stopped for a beer and toasted a successful day. Brugge is a beautiful city and we would like to come back. Tomorrow though, we head for ...
