Day Trip to Harlingen

Some of Alice's Diary Notes for Harlingen
" ..................We didn't realise how much time we had spend at the cemetery (locating the graves of Alice's infant brothers) so we took off and drove to Harlingen.  Harlingen is the harbour of Friesland and a gorgeous little place.  Lots of beautiful boats waiting to cross the Wadden which is the sea between Friesland and the islands of ...

A visit to Delft (not Dafft)

... the story about the bike for Christmas was hilarious.) We had just returned to the car when this huge storm came up with winds and torrents of rain. It rained buckets on us all the way home. I asked Gyongyi if this happened frequently in the Netherlands and she said this is the first one she has ever seen like this in the nine years she has lived here. I said I was ...

The Beach

Ok so the bike that I bought... it sucks. I spent the night cutting through a tube I found with a butter knife to replace the main seat stem. After 40 minutes I was able to cut through the whole thing. It sucks not to have decent tools. This morning I woke up and the front tire was completely flat. That almost completely destroyed my plans ...

Bike tour and the rest of Holland

... still interesting. We then headed back to Amsterdam where our tour ended. It was really great to be able to see Holland's country side and other cities in Holland. Day 3 Brett and I were up early and enjoyed our second very amazing Breakfast from our amazing hosts then headed our way to Orange bikes where we were going on a tour of Amsterdam. There was only one other couple that would be taking the tour with us, and our tour guide ended being very ...

Haben Sie etwas dagegen, wenn ich rauche?

... an hour. Then everything went nuts. Complete chaos. In the room, the hallway and from the sound of it, the street as well. People had lost their damn minds... ...oh, wait. Scratch that. They were all just high. This is what happens when people who are already well sub-Britney in mental capacity smoke for three days straight and add alcohol to the mixture. Try as I might, I couldn't escape it. So I finally made an executive decision: Get the hell outta ...

The Hague

I took a day trip out to The Hague before starting work. While my guidebook calls it "Amsterdam's stern maiden aunt", the city had several nice museums. I made it to the Mauritshaus, the Binneof, and the International Court of Justice before my feet started to throb and I had to go home.

Amsterdam or Bust!

I blinked and Munich was over. Such a great time and I met such great people. I have a theory in life that good people attract other good people and this trip definitely helped solidify that. Our last night was super fun and we met some cool ass chics. The weather in Munich stayed beautiful for us. Just 2 days of rain, the rest were amazing. Arriving in Amsterdam in a bit, a little hungover but totally psyched. Thank you Munich for the time of my life!

... not together-that would just be madness!). This past weekend Roelof and I also adopted a bunny. He's a 2-month old "bearded rabbit," which basically just means he's really furry. His name is Benji, and he's extremely friendly and surprisingly very calm; and as Roelof jokes, he is our first 'official' addition to our future in-house zoo :) Beyond that there isn't a whole lot to report. I've joined a gym in the area (it's enormous, and includes the largest ...

Bicycles, Sheep and Beaches

The next morning we cleared our few belongings out of our room and breakfasted with the scores of geriatric Germans that shared our hostel. Content our bread, cheese, meat, coffee and juice breakfast we rented bikes for 5E a piece from the hostel and after a short stop at the local VVV (Dutch tourism office), peddled north towards the island's coastal national park. Our guidebooks and brief research on Texel had warned us of sheep, but nothing could have prepared us for the ...

... i was going to arrive at hoorn train station with plenty of time! I tried to give Oma and Opa and/or Ron and Jose a ring to tell them I was ok - but turns out I don't know how to use a pay phone anymore after my years of mobile phone use! So I just tried to buy a ticket (tried the ticket machines - but they only took coins and cards, so the ticket teller lady was seeming very friendly by this time! But it was all ok - i decided to get the ...
