Another beautiful sunny day saw us cycling out of camp to explore Lake Lauwersoog. Corinne now has a map holder on her bike which we had brought the day before. Confident in our navigational ability we set off down the eastern shoreline. Once again the paths are well prepared and where they are not tarred are concreted they are well graveled......no potholes :).

The ride took us through the farming areas where the ...

Today we decided to make a move up to the far north of Holland to a place called Lauwersoog. Lauwversoog is a World Heritage Site and is interesting in that the open sea is separated from the inland lake by a huge dyke. The sea water to the north of the dyke is salt whilst the water to the south of the dyke is fresh and possibly as much as 15 meters below the mean sea level.

Ferries over around 20-40 meters of water admittedly, but ferries none the less. Our failure to predict these ferries resulted in us getting temporarily lost again.

The people in Holland are I think the most friendly people that I have ever met in ...

... bicycle trails are very well mapped and marked so it shouldn't have presented any problems, however we failed to take into account that the different trails not only criss-crossed each other but also shared the same numbers. So when we arrived at say point 99 we discovered that there were several point 99's on our map and we had no idea which was which. After cycling around in circles for a few hours, in which we experienced ...

    Wind from the North Pole

A travel blog entry by pybus71 on Jun 02, 2015

Today we woke up to the sound of a screaming Northerly wind,
so cold that it must have originated at the North Pole, and with it came an icy
rain. We had a light breakfast and hung around hoping that the weather might
improve. No such luck, so we packed up in the rain and headed further North
towards a place called Leeuwarden which is a very touristic town in an area
    full ...
