... I guess that by Yukon or NWT standards it was. Except for one RV the drivers were extremely courteous, and the paved bike path parallel to the road started about 10 km north of Sortland. Except for the rain 'twas a good ride. It was probably the coldest day of the trip, with the temperature never rising above 6 degrees C.

... cars pass. It was cold in there, but not too scary. Ate our lunch at the boat quai, then cycled about 10 km farther, and back, to kill time. No place to get coffee (or any other liquid refreshment), but noticed a bakery on the way back. Unfortunately, the baking consisted of large loaves of bread and lots of frozen stuff...none of it appealed to us.

... towards Straume. The weather became looked quite threatening as we approached Straume at the 25 km mark, but 'twas a dry ride, and back at Ringstad we sat out on the deck in brilliant sunshine to enjoy the scenery, the post ride wine/beer (Mack from Tromsø, the northernmost brewery in the world), and the seagulls chasing off an eagle. All in all another magic day.

Ontem o sol não se pôs e hoje não nasceu!

Isso, e simplesmente isso, é o Pólo Norte.
A linha imaginária do círculo polar determina a divisão: ao seu norte ao menos uma vez no ano o sol não se põe, 24 horas de dia, de luz solar!
Como acordamos em Narvik (latitude 68° 25' 14''), bem dentro da calota polar, o sol nasceu dia 24/05 e somente voltará se pôr no dia 19/07. São quase dois meses de plena luz!
