    87 degree temps does not encourage fall colors! However, a stop at Ben @ Jerry's eased the warm day. Crossed from VT to NY via Lake Champlain ferry ($23). Ausable Chasm was worth the stop...and provided a scenic hike. Colorful trees amidst interesting layers of rock were amazing! Staying at Black Bear Camping in NY for 3 nights allowed us to explore the area. Even tho we missed our scheduled West Point tour......got ...

    From Waterbury we traveled a short distance to Stowe, VT. It is a really beautiful town loaded with well kept inns and B & B's as well as ski resorts. There was an art fest just setting up in town and later today a balloon launch would take place. The art fest was a fleeting thought for me as we drove by and I knew we would be long gone before the hot air balloons launched.
