Today we got a late start because we had to drive to our starting point from Omaha in the morning. We said goodbye to family and took off. Today was the first day that we had to take a very windy path to be able to go the direction we wanted to go without getting on the interstate. Everywhere we rode had been flooded a few years ago. You could see water lines about 4 feet up on houses and most of them looked like they had been abandoned. ...
Ok sleep last night in spite of having only one earplug. It helps to be tired and to have lots of white noise by way of the AC. Got up early and got in a short workout before hitting the road. Took a bit of hunting around to find diesel for the VW this morning but eventually found some.

... more while he tackled the unpleasant task of changing the tire. A stop at Goodyear while the flat tire was repaired and we were off to explore the boys neighborhood, schools & favorite shopping places. We dined together at Golden Corral and then took them back to their home.
It was a wonderful visit. They are really nice boys and a joy to be with.

So we left the very nice Super 8 in Lincoln, IL around 9 am. Finally a warm morning. No rain gear or heated gear today. It went up to 20 degrees for most of the day, but I found it a bit chilly on the highway at times because it was a cloudy all day. Lincoln is near route 66, which we would like to ride, but the road is very bad in spots and takes a lot longer to ride.
