    After leaving Tupelo on Saturday morning I spent the rest of the morning at Brice's Crossroads National Battlefield, which was fairly well-preserved (certainly compared to Tupelo) and very interesting to me since it is probably the best-known of Nathan Bedford Forrest's victories.     Fortunately for Johnston his attack was still a complete surprise and they quickly routed the Northerners and pushed them back about 1 mile and out of their own camps.
