It was the animals for sale that interested us most, there were very cute tiny puppies, hamsters, squirrels, hedgehogs, snakes, tarantulas, lots of different types of birds, pretty much any small animal you can think of! Not sure if they were sold as pets or food ...

The driver spoke no English but we had the name of our accommodation written in Chinese and so we set off on the also brand new airport expressway. ... I might as well go somewhere. It’s all been planned last minute – within the last hour! So my plan is to go to a place called ‘Dali’ around 250miles northwest from here. Hoping to go there by sleeper train at 11pm or 11:30pm which should take around 7hours. I’ll then find somewhere to stay for a few days when I get there and go back to Kunming on the Sunday.

So we’ll see how it all works ...
