We went through all the rooms of the fortress looking for the best views, then sat down and sketched. ... euro if you dont want to share a bathroom with someone. In the end we managed to find a private room with bathroom but the reviews are not that good but it will do we also decided to stay only 2 nights as a compromise!

In the evening we watched our 1 tv channel that was in english CNN news lol and read our books then walked and got a take away kebab both Ian and I are going to look like kebabs before the end of the trip.

... a whole of 45mins, which definitely did not seem long enough. Even though we both despise the 'Sound of Music' (apparently the hostel in Salzburg shows it 3 times a day!), it would have been nice to be in Salz longer than a quick stop. Must make sure we go there next time....

A large section was also a bit scary because there was construction work being done that closed one lane so there was only one skinny shared lane remaining, and at times I wondered how a car any bigger than ours could squeeze along. ... across a narrow street from our bed, began to call the people to church. There are a lot of churches, all with bells, in Salzburg. So, up we get and out we go. Damn those bells, damn those drunken hooligans, damn them all! We locked our bags up at the station again then went to find eats at a local restaurant. The poor girl waiting tables complained of being overworked. So sad. After food we headed ...

... where the children famously fell into the lake. We later went to the gazebo where Liesl sang, 'I am sixteen going on seventeen' to the postman Rolf. We all had a good laugh as we reminisced and posed cheesily in front of the gazebo. (Come on. You would too!) After the gazebo we took a drive through the picturesque Austrian countryside stopping for strudel at a restaurant in the Lake District. It got dark quite early so we had to quickly speed to the last stop ...

August 26-Monday
We left Kitzbuhel at 8:30. There was a brief stop in Berchtesgarden, in Germany, at 10:00. Up on the side of the mountain, we could see Hitler's Eagle’s Nest. It was rather chilling to see that part of history. The bunker is now a restaurant. Our rest stop overlooked a valley filled with wonderful homes. What a view! Back on the bus and on to Salzburg. Time 10:35.

... weather matched the day…glorious! In the evening, we went to a Farmer’s Buffet for dinner. It consisted of all the types of food that the local folks have. It was ok, but not my cup of tea. After dinner, though, we were entertained by a wonderful trio of singers doing songs from the Sound of Music. Great fun was had by all. It was then time to turn in and get ready for more adventures.

... I was really here, walking the streets in Kitzbuhel, Austria…one of the most famous skiing venues in the world. We stopped at a market to pick up something to eat…look at us! Here only a couple of hours and already we're in the grocery store!

There was a get together dinner tonight at 7:00. Dinner consisted of turkey cordon bleu, fries and strudel. At 8:00 pm, we decided to call it a day. We went to bed.


August 25-Sunday ...
