Day 1, late start, high velocity and a late camp

So, the journey starts. ( And Jan is writing this blogpost because...because) (because stef is working)
We knew we still had some gear to pack so we went to bed early (don't believe me) which resulted in an early start (11 am) the next morning. From the beginning, it was clear, that the ascent to the top of Julier pass will be the hardest uphill climb on our whole trip. It's about 620 m above Champfèr and ...

So this was a great idea in summer

A travel blog entry by stef.pybus on Oct 07, 2015

... this, 2 days before we leave, its absolutely pouring with rain. We will be cycling to london, where rain is pretty much a given. All this in a tent. Like I said, this was a great idea in the summer. But it will be done. Bikes have been packed, return flights have been booked, and I refuse to be outdone by mom and dad in record km on ...

Friday 2nd October And after a minor panic as I'd thrown the return Train tickets to Tasch in the bin, thinking to lighten the load in my purse by getting rid of any surplus bits of paper etc. (tickets found and the missing parking ticket with them) we set off to the train station to Tasch and the parked vans. Loading up is down to a fine art and we were soon on the way to St Moritz. An adventurous driving day, through small villages and large villages, over high mountain passes, ...

... and certainly not where i wanted to be!!

        I
walked around the area taking in the great views and finally decided at this
time in the afternoon (6pm) there is nowhere up here to eat and so I headed
back to my hotel room. Most restaurants only open at 7.30pm so it was resting
time for me...or so I thought!!

        Back
at the hotel it was just screaming teenagers everywhere I walked. I was so
tempted to hand the key back and simply go and ...

CHEESE MAKING IN THE SWISS ALPS

By our second day we had the bus/train system mastered...we knew where NOT to get off the train. First stop was at Morteratsch at a local cheese factory where they make cheese the traditional way with milk from cows that graze high in the mountains. We watched a cheese maker whipping up a copper cauldron of cheese. We were his most rapt audience. Although all the people we met in Switzerland spoke English, he didn't. So, ...
