Palace of Knossos and Aghios Nikolaos

... memory is the cheese pie that we bought from a local bakery and some Greek cookies that hit the spot. Worst memory is that I couldn’t find an ATM that would take my US bank card which in turn prevented me from replenishing my dwindling supply of Euros which I would need two days later in Malta.

3. The Peugeot. It was a lot of fun to drive. Too bad we can’t get them in Canada.

4. It was dark by the time we returned to Aghios ...

Get me outta here!

... were looking up!

We found a decent looking place to stay in (Kastro Hotel) on hostelbookers.com and opted to wander around there to see if we could get it a bit cheaper than on the net. Unfortunately, the map on the net wasn't correct and we ended up doing bog laps around Heraklion for AGES in the rain with our backpacks looking for the damn place. Every time we asked someone where it was they pointed us in another direction. I mean, if you don't know ...

Minoans! (and why can't the land stop moving?)

Yesterday we got up at 5am in order to catch our plane from Santorini. Most of our group was on the same plane , so we said our sleepy good byes. We flew on Aegean Air which has nice new planes. We went to Athens and then basically retraced the short flight by flying to Crete. We staggered into hotel Lato at 10am where we received a special bonus upgrade to the 5th floor executive suite. 2 rooms on the 5th floor with an ...

Knossos

We had decided to go to Knossos on our last full day (Friday) as it is close to Iraklio where Chris and Milly will fly from on Friday night. But it made sense to take the last day in a more leisurely fashion and visit the Minoan palace of Knossos on Thursday. So we did.

After a brisk drive through the usual nightmare traffic and narrow streets, and our usual lunch, this time just across the road from the palace, we entered the grounds. The entry fee is €6 ...

Mark & Ave Maria

Somehow wherever I am on holiday I think about Mark. Perhaps it's because you notice couples holding hands on the beach or it's just part of the holiday romance ...

Somewhere above Italy

... My iPod decided it had enough and decided it didn't have aenough energy left =( me being rather annoyed since I had fully charged it that same night << (btw I think we are just flying over Garda Lake in Italy!). Took a stroll outside and by the time we ate our salads and I looked on the information board it said that our flight/gate was closing! Now we looked about 12 ...

Thankful

Just finished reading Portraits by Cynthia Freeman. Makes me feel even more grateful for my family. I must be one of the luckiest girls around to have a family who love and support me.

Where to eat?

... to get us eating at there place. But thankfully they didn't - with exception of one, but you have that evrywhere, don't you? "Hello come into my restaurant. We sell nice food.. fish.. meat.." and they quote the whole menu to you while all you want to do is run away. So in our case not the best way to get us to eat there. That's sounds like rather childish behaviour of us if I read that :/

I just swollowed salt water *Yuck!* The sea was lovely though - many waves!
It's hot!

... apartement. But at last -we didn't think we would ever get there!- we arrived there and sat down exhausted, dripping with sweat, at the pool dipping our feet in the lovely cool water. I almost, almost, jumped in it with all my clothes on and all! After a few minutes Eve decided to get busy and clean the pool and tried to get bugs and leaves out of it with a fsihing net. When back at our aprtment we ...

A tough start

... the airport with our backpacks - boy it was hot! I keep trying to remember why I brought a woolly jumper with me. Saying that there is not a bus to the place we want to go to, the taxi drivers say they don't mind driving us there for €35. Me, being less firm than Eve, was thinking that perhaps we should take a taxi- just one time as we are just starting off- but ...
