... and surprising place. But to come all this way on a motorbike just to ride two roads that are bettered by dozens in the Alps makes no sense at all.

Once over the Transfagarasan we joined the busy main road towards Brasov. We were glad when we were instructed by the Satnav to turn onto more minor roads. At least we were glad for the first few hundred metres. At first it was a concrete road surface, or at ...

... sponsored by a factory during the communist era. He told us about climbing the Lions in Vancouver among many others. It seemed like every time we had a question or story, he was able to relate it to some crazy adventure of his own-- very nonchalantly. It was clear as soon as we had entered the town of Bran that is was a "famous" location-- tons of hotel and restaurants all advertising Dracula in some way. All the little shops and stands were full of fangs, ...

... was an infestation of brides! No, I didn't take pictures, Nosey.

The town square is Bavarian style, with a clock tower centerpiece. There's a pedestrian mall with umbrellad restaurant tables and boutiques. Tourists swarm the main drag, eating gelato and drinking beer. There are mojito stands. There is a clown. The story of the Pied Piper ends here, with the children emerging from underground after being seduced away from their hometown Hamelin in Germany.
