joining the free walking tour – and so we did … for about 10
minutes. I was feeling pretty ****** and couldn't be bothered walking

We were going to do the free guided city tour, but when we arrived we would have been the only ones so we didn't go. Since the guides all work off tips, we didn't want to feel obligated to have to pay them more than we would have normally. So we decided to do our own city tour and just go to the places they go.
