This is a top pick!

I've met a couple of new hostel buddies for this evenings entertainment, an 18 year old stoner Philly kid and a 25 year old New York metal head with a massive beard. Add me to complete the three amigos and you have an eclectic mix to say the least. We've decided...on no wait. This ...

... the bar service was excellent ... no waiting at all ... and the trendite behind the bar put extra vigour into making our vodka sours.  And we were extremely drunk quite quickly. We staggered home. I imagine that on any other night this place would be jumping ( it had quite a diverse roster of indie acts playing every night) and it should be a part of any Berlin trip. Day two, predictably, started slow with a hangover haze blurring the view from our red-rimmed eyes.  There is only ...

    Not a 5-Star Hotel

    from resorttrip

This hotel has seen "better days". Everything was O.K., but nothing special. Small bathroom .. cheap looking .... The service was friendly and helpful.

The location is good, only minutes to KADEWE, Gedaechtnis Kirche and Kurfuersten Damm.

    Elegance without stuffiness

    from leipzig

We have stayed at the Steigenberger several times and have never been disappointed. The staff is outstanding. Each room comes with thick, comfortable bathrobes and slippers, which can be worn to the spa area, which is one of the most relaxing in all of Berlin.

If you want to swim olympic size laps, then don't go to this pool. If you want to relax and have fun lounging, then this is your place. The chairs are cushioned, you can order drinks from the bar, and a there is even a small internal courtyard if you care to take the sun.

The sauna area is outstanding, with a great dunking pool that is immaculate.

If you want to exercise, there are a few cardio machines and free weights too.

The breakfast is outstanding, a feast for the all senses. And the service in the restaurant is excellent. The breakfast room is lovely, spacious and quiet.

I found the rooms to be tastefully appointed, done in relaxing hues of color. And when I stayed there, there were none of the plastic bottles of shampoo on the walls, but rather invidual containers of shampoo and other toiletries. Though I must say, that for the sake of the environment, I would find a wall mounted shampoo dispenser to be a fine idea and not at all something to detract from the level of the hotel (as stated in another review).

This is my favorite hotel in Berlin, and one of my favorite hotels anywhere. It is a high quality hotel through and through. Elegance without stuffiness, a tranquil, lovely place to spend some time.

    Tranquil oasis

    from anonymous

We found this hotel so peaceful although only a 2 minute walk from busy, bustling Kurfurstendamm Strasse. Staff very helpful and friendly, rooms immaculate and the pool maybe small but a very welcome break after a strenuous day sightseeing and shopping.

    Steigenburger Hotel

    from bodger

    Hotel Steigenburger, Berlin

Stayed here for a five day break in January 2005.

Nice hotel, very conveniently located near to the shops at one end of the K'damm and all transport links.

Rooms spacious and well kitted out. Super breakfast and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Only gripe was the air-conditioned room was a tad cold (it was cold and snowing in January and they did attempt to fix it).

The price was quite competitive as it was off peak and I thought it was good value. In reality though I would rate the hotel over all as nearer to 4 star than the 5 it claims. All in all an enjoyable stay.

    Lovely place to stay.

    from Tillotson

We stayed in this hotel during May 2004 with friends - we booked rooms on the 6th floor and loved every minute of our stay. The service was wonderful, turned down beds, weather notices and chocolate, the executive lounge where free drinks and food was served from 3.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. was a real treat - we paid 100 per double room for this visit and it was worth every penny - breakfast was included too - I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Staff were very helpful throughout our stay.

    Not a five star hotel

    from anonymous

We just stayed at the Steigenberger Hotel for the second time. There is nothing to complain about, but facing all the new 5 star hotels in Berlin, it is a little bit old fashioned and needs a ground up renovation to compete.

Breakfast buffet is great, the location is quiet, just a few steps away from the Kurfuerstendamm. I can recommend it, but would rate it a 4 star hotel.

    Good Hotel October 2, 2004

    I would stay again.

Steigenberger Hotel - Average Hotel definitely not a 5star!

    from anonymous

Average Hotel - I've learnt a lesson here, I should have stayed with my first choice of hotels, being the Swisshotel (which we visited and is absolutely fabulous) but then decided to go and stay at the Steigenberger Hotel as it looked very pretty with a pretty view of the gardens and a quiet tranquil location etc.. Wrong! I chose this hotel as a surprise romantic weekend away for my partners birthday. Upon arrival their was building rennovation and scaffolding as the reception was being moved around (which I was not notified of). Don't trust the pictures you see on the websites which look pretty good. Allegedly one of the top hotels in Berlin, this may have been the case some 10 or 15 years ago, but they can certainly do with updating their rooms and bathrooms which were very basic rooms with no toiletries (only plastic bottles which were attached to the wall and one of the containers was empty!) something you certainly dont expect in a 5 star hotel also no tea / coffee facilities, double bed consists of 2 mattresses pushed together, poor decor very dull looking, could do with brightening up and refreshing the place also their 'big size' pool as seen in their photos is like an oversized jacuzzi! Breakfast was very good but also very expensive - check this is included in the price of the room! However, good location from Ku'dam. Walking distance of a few minutes. Would not stay there again, felt dissappointed as I wanted the hotel to be perfect for the occasion and it certainly wasnt, but Berlin is great and thoroughly recommend the city for sightseeing and shopping.

Steigenberger...wish it was more than 1 night

    from anonymous

Travel agent put me in the Steigenberger for just 1 night due to a hotel mix-up. Apparently this hotel was recently refurbished and I can say it's one of the nicest european hotels I've stayed at. Room was large and full of the most up to date ammenities. I felt it was like a US hotel. Lots of room, comfy bed, great bath/shower. Everything clean and nice. The hotel staff was english speaking (always helpful).

My only complaint is that it was far away from where I had to attend meetings everyday - the ICC Convention Center. It was about a 10 euro cab fare one way. The hotel was in a nice part of berlin with a cute park right across the street.

    Very Pleasant

    from anonymous

I stayed in the Steigenberger for three days in June of 2004 and had a very nice stay. The room was a modern business class room - very clean and comfortable. I got a very reasonable rate from Expedia.

American travellers should know that the staff spoke solid English and were eager to help in any way they could.

The Steigenberger is conveniently located near the Berlin Zoo train station, and is very close to the KaDeWe, the Zoo, the Tiergarten, the Trains, and the KuDamm shopping district. Tourists will probably enjoy taking the 100 bus (also convenient, ride the upper deck) to the Wall area.

The hotel is still working out some pretty big problems with their wireless Internet service and if that is important to you I would mention that you want a room with a strong wireless signal (not all rooms have this). I should also say, however, that the staff was very helpful in finally getting this to work for me.
