Made another friend.
Was taking photos on the streets near the Christmas Markets when I was approached by another photographer, asking me whether I am using the X-E1. We chatted for sometime and turns out he's a pro with a history of M6s and was carrying 2 XPro1s with different lenses. He gave me some tips on where best to shoot the night markets. Lucky, really, as It turned out where I was was t the main Xmas markets at all. The night would have been very different I didn't have my X-E1 with ...
SNOW & CURRYWURST!!!!
... Also, I had my first currywurst in FIVE (5) years!! that was so exciting.
I walked aimlessly getting a feel of the city and stumbled upon the city center.
There were several really good looking delicatessen, that had open windows selling different forms of sausages. I was in heaven.
HEAVEN!!!!
Oh I also found an Apple Store - they are every where and made me feel safe in a foreign city.
There's something wrong about that.
Yet so right.

Dead body.
Thats right, a dead body right in front of where I needed to go - the Five Elements Hostel in Frankfurt, at 730am after a 12 hour flight.
How is that for a "Welcome to Frankfurt" moment.
That by itself doesn't bother me, what shocked me was the amount of police cars around... it seemed the police was a bit shocked too; ...
Flying NRT-FRA on Lufthansa Airbus 380
... There are 11 counters. I was the only customer in Zone Z as I walked over to the Lufthansa counter. There were three Japanese women there; they appear to be ANA agents. That makes sense; Lufthansa contracts with ANA for ground operations here rather than hiring its own staff.
I was warmly greeted. The ladies took my large suitcase and tagged it through to Sarajevo, then handed me my boarding passes for all three flights along with a map showing the location of the ANA ...
Aurbach and Alsbach Castles
... the site of the original castle The castle lost much of its strategic importance during the 16th Century until, by the time of the Thirty Years Wary, it was no longer in military use.In 1674 during the Franco Dutch War the castle was conquered and set on fire by an army, killing the local people who had sought protection within the ruin's walls. The abandoned castle became a ruin over the next few hundred years. Today there is a restaurant ...

Historical Traveler Reviews InterCityHotel Frankfurt Airport
Good Location to Airport
We stayed at this hotel the night before we were leaving Germany. The hotel is very close to the aiport and was resonably priced. The room and hotel was very clean and the hotel staff were very nice. The parking is an extra 12 euros. We ate in the bar/pub. The food was not good at all but my husband and myself thought the beer and wine were great! Would defintly stay in this hotel again.
Very basic hotel
this is your very basic hotel near the airport. small bathroom and plain room. bar downstairs is nice. free shuttle to/from airport. stayed there for a 12hr layover between flights. Not recommended if you are looking for room service, etc. It is clean and basic if you are trying to save money.
Decent airport hotel
While it's certainly not architecturally distinctive (OK..it's a big concrete box) this is a reasonably priced, impeccably clean hotel located very close to the Frankfurt airport. I stayed here twice last month and both stays were fine.
The hotel offers a free shuttle service to and from the airport, every half hour. This is on a full-size city bus, and it is heavily utilized. Both mornings I went to the airport, the bus was packed full! One night I arrived during off-hours and had to take a taxi; it was about 10EUR from the airport train-station to the hotel.
The standard rates of 150EUR or more would be appallingly high for what is offered, but it was easy to find discounted rates of 50-60EUR online (hint: Expedia) and at that price it is very good value for the money.
Breakfast is not included in most rates (and at 16EUR I would recommend just getting something at the airport instead). The pub off the lobby actually has some pretty decent German beer...if you like the wheat beer they had a good weizen (don't recall the name)...and it's open until 1 AM.
The interior of the hotel is rather bland - think Holiday Inn, but more modern, and with at least some attempt to be stylish if not interesting.
It is hard to find any other rooms at this price this close to the airport. Especially if you just need a place to crash before a morning flight, this hotel is hard to beat.
Great location - InterCityHotel Frankfurt Airport
Great location, directly at Frankfurt International Airport and easy access to the highway. Free Shuttle Bus to the Hotel from both terminals. Very friendly service. Great conference facilities. Very good rates even during Fairs. Cosy Pub with great atmosphere.
Good Food. Very nice Fitness Center.
Convenient
This is a very good airport hotel. The room was clean and spaceous. It was not air-conditioned, but this was not a problem in October. (Air-conditioned room was available for extra cost). The staff was friendly and helpful. We arrived too late to use the restaurant, but the bar was open for snacks. The room price was less than what we paid for any of the eight nights of our Germany visit.
The main attribute of this hotel is its convenient location. It was very easy to find from the autobahn. We turned in our car the night before our return flight home and took the hotel shuttle bus back to the hotel. We took the shuttle back to the terminal for our morning flight and thus avoided the hassle of an early morning car return.
Overall, a pleasent overnight stay. We would definitely stay here again.
Okay, but nothing to write home about
Been there for a night and a day (attended a congress). Its location is quite convenient to the airport (a short shuttle ride) and next to the famous german autobahn A5. Check-In was quick and efficient and I got a business/comfort room, 3rd floor, facing Autobahn and US AirBase. Given the hotels location next to the autobahn, it was quit enough for me, but I doubt everybody would be happy the noise level. The mattress was old and way too soft, but must disgusting in the room was the office chair (see photo). I sure don´t want to know where these spots come from. Rest of the room was clean (enough) and I had a quite good nights sleep. Breakfast Buffet (16,- EUR) was medium. For those 16 (!) EUR they make you get your coffee all by yourself using a autoimatic coffeemaker. Eggs were good, but given the price I´d prefer a snack at the airport instead. I would consider to go there again for the congress rate I used (about 85 EUR) but won´t pay more for that experience.
Only for emergencies.
Grim (although clean) and not even good value. Souless. No room service to speak of so BYO.
Good deal close to the airport
If you are looking for something close to the airport, but don't want to spend a fortune, this is a good choice. I have stayed here 8 times on my out of Germany when I wanted a place close to the airport for an early morning flight. It is sort of a budget/business hotel. Clientele tends to be a large proportion of tourists on there way out of Germany and a lot of US servicemen or contractors for the airbase across the street. It is located on the southeast side of the Frankfurt airport's airfield, but I haven't any significant airplane noise.
Service is ok and English is spoken by all. The rooms are clean, bright and comfortable. The decor is a kind of funky corporate modern (you won't find local flavor if that is what you are looking for). Wireless access is available. The restaurant has a buffet or you can order from the menu. The buffet is nothing to rave about, but it is plentiful, more or less American style food choices. Free shuttle to/from the airport.
Small bar with snacks, light meals. In the summer they have a "beergarden" on the lawn in front of the hotel.
What a find!
Stayed there during a recent lay-over. What a find!
Very easy to get to from the German Autobahn, quiet location, crisp comfortable rooms, impressive dinner buffet, caring staff and last not least - a free shuttle bus to the airport.
An excellent value - highly recommended!
Good Room!
Stayed here the night before a flight home to the US.. very clean, comfortable hotel. Its quite basic, but it beats the alternative of having to try and rush to the airport from other areas in the morning!
Be advised.. there is NOTHING to do near the hotel. You would need to go to the airport, then take the train into town for activities.
The buffet dinner was quite good!
I would reccommend!!
