... to the airport, where we boarded 9 seater aircraft and flew north for just over an hour, crossing the Yukon River, the Dalton Highway and the Alaskan pipeline, which brings oil from Prudhoe Bay on the north coast, down to the ice free ports on the south coast. Parks Highway and northbound we head. Road construction caused some delays the first few miles. After walking around Pioneer Park, we headed for another must do item on our Fairbanks agenda. Chena Hot Springs.

The road to Chena Hot Springs is just north of Fairbanks and heads east up the Chena River. This is a heavily forested area. The previous few days have been rainy, which helped to put out a major forest fire that was threatening this area. Most of the picnic areas and campgrounds are still posted as being closed due to the fire threat. ...
