... It still took over two years to prepare the way for the eventual water pipeline. Much of the success of the Trans Alaska Oil Pipeline is due to lessons learned on this construction project.
So on we went to the gold panning area. We were each given a "poke" and received instructions during the train ride here how to work the pan. Plenty of workers were around to assist. See pics for more ...

After walking around Pioneer Park, we headed for another must do item on our Fairbanks agenda. Chena Hot Springs.

The road to Chena Hot Springs is just north of Fairbanks and heads east up the Chena River. This is a heavily forested area. The previous few days have been rainy, which helped to put out a major forest fire that was threatening this area.
