There are 5 palaces that have survived - been restored after the Japanese pretty much burnt everything to the ground - they are much like the Chinese ones but the paint work has much more green. The new palaces, end 19th beginning 20th c, are plainer and more graceful, being built entirely of wood with rice paper screens dividing ...

... by South Korea. I doubt that these walls could hinder any North Koreans from attacking, which was scary to think about while down there. It probably didn't help watching a scary film before we were led into the tunnels. If it were me, I wouldn't be so keen for unification knowing that the North Koreans built these tunnels to kill. I understand the desire to reunite families, but the dynamite holes pointing towards the Southern side within the tunnel ...

We had our first Korean meal in Seoul - bibimbap in stone pot at a local eatery. After checking in, we took the metro to Dongdaemun markets for a wander and this area had a lot of cheap clothing markets which weren't too appealing actually.

We checked into the hotel and freshened up before heading back out to take the metro to Dongdaemun. This area was the clothing and haberdashery quarter in Seoul. Again the clothing ...
