Happy birthday to my lovely husband!! Not so sure that walking to Pulpit rock was an ideal 'present' but as he reassures me - playing golf at St Andrews and the cost involved with that was more than enough as an early birthday pressie.
So we had a good hearty breakfast, feeling that today we were gonna need the energy. Quickly got our gear together and left at 8.15 in the hope of catching the 8.40 ferry from Stavanger across to Tau. ...

We woke to a cold, damp morning and with a fresh breeze from the north-west. Stavanger is only a little over 10 miles from here so there was no great rush, so we decided to have a fried breakfast and hope that the weather cleared a little. It would also give some time to the skipper and his crew on the small Beneteau First that had rafted outside us to get their act together and leave, thereby allowing us to go.

... did move, lucky that is, for a Belgian 50’ elderly racing boat (she weighs 6.5 tons , cf our 40’ boat which weighs 11.5!) which managed, with our help, to squeeze in at the end.

As we will be here for several days, we were in no rush to see the town, I will describe it in more detail tomorrow. For now, suffice it to say that Stavanger was buzzing when we went in search of the tourist office for ideas of what to do ‘twixt ...

No matter how much I have traveled, the actual journey still manages to make me anxious. I set 3 alarms between my phone and my iPad just to make sure I would wake up on time and finally I couldn't sleep at all anyways.
