    Start the day with a 4 hour ferry trip from Bergen to Stavanger. Between the islands and the skerries, then along the North Sea coast, wonderful! Summer cottages with boathouses dot the coastline and the islands, and plenty of boats were out fishing or for a recreational sail.

    ... of the (non-existent) reindeers than of the civil engineering in getting a road through these mountains. We took some pictures but they really don't do justice to that road. Beautiful scenery, ice floes on the lakes, and about 50 per cent snow cover in places. We met a couple of French lads up the top who were after a lift down the mountain.     ... landscape to the former fishing town – now oil city – of Stavanger. Lenny, another former bandmate of Greg’s, collected us from the airport in a swishy Volvo (seriously, it really was nice). After a whistlestop car tour of the city we headed to his flat, which boasts a magnificent view over Stavanger’s harbour.
