Quetzals (iridescent green and red birds) also frequented the area (Pierre's note: the white-tipped quetzal which can only be found here and sometimes in NE Colombia). Otherwise, there were guans, antpittas, antwrens, puffbirds, and the tiny mouse-like Caracas Tapaculo (another endemic for this trip). The walks were beautiful, and we enjoyed sunny days with comfortable temperatures. Cheers!

... so i will not be in contact for a while. Venezula is a beautiful country but seems to have many problems, most seem very paranoid about safety but with good reason. Many areas are safe and very nice but during the day, others you do not stay around long, and yes I am being careful Mum... The weather is a lot like our Summers mid 30´s and humid. Paa plass i Hugo Chavez hjemland, Venezuela. Etter nesten et dogns busstur, innom Macao, Maracaibo for vi kom fram til Maracay (her gjelder det aa ha tunga rett i munnen!), var vi altsaa paa plass. Vi har naa vaert her i tre dager, og forelopig har vi ikke opplevd alt det negative folk sier om dette landet. I folge folk vi har truffet skal folk vaere negative og rett og slett uvennlige, men "so far - so good" for oss ...

... which for some reason has very narrow footpaths coupled with protruding ornate barred windows which one has to compete with to stay off the road. Designed for stick-insects perhaps. The star attraction is a beatiful long white sand beach with crystal clear water and crashing surf surrounded by mountains and palm trees. I´ll say no more!
