Big day today. Went to pick up hire car which was hilarious. We had been given the address of Avis from our travel Agent. The directions read with an address. We walked around for 1/2 hour trying to find it with no luck. We eventually asked a lady on the street who couldn't understand us so she marches into the Crowne Plaza hotel and drags out some employee who could speak a little English. He takes us down the hotel lift into underground car park where all the Avis ...

For being my Gateway, I must confess I don't know a great deal about the city itself. Given what I do, I should probably know a little bit more, but the way it's marketed, I think it's too often seen as just a gateway. ... car park, underground in the next block. First floor room (thankfully) is basic but adequate overlooking the square's public car park. A little further along the square is the Ieper Christmas Market - bright lights and Christmas music seen and heard from our room (until 23.30 whether we like it or night). Very pleased with first (night time) impression of Ieper. Beautiful clock tower on Cloth Hall and great bell tower on church - both lit up wonderfully. All ...

Hailstones, sleet and thunder - what next?

... we thought! We just started steering from inside when the heavens opened and our 3rd lot of hailstones with thunder and lightning. What a difference a day makes – yesterday sunbathing and today it is winter.
A lot of boats have taken their inside steering position out to make a bigger saloon, but we have been grateful to still have ours on more than 1 occasion. This turned out to be the
longest hailstorm and sleet shower ...
