Wow! Our adventure in Sri Lanka sure did start off with a bang! We literally caught all modes of transport possible to arrive in Arugam Bay for sunrise. Wondering if we were ever going to make it we surely have some fond and interesting memories of getting there in one piece. The most funny one (not at the time but now looking back) was the train ride. Picture the traditional trains you see in movies or photos of India or Sri Lanka, packed to the brim, quite squished ...

... called Aragum Bay. I did not surf, would definitely have lost the fight against gravity in that battle. Not much to say except the waves were big, sun was nice and we had the opportunity to enter full relaxation and tanning mode. ... back to ella and the beautiful mountains. Packed up and organised a very early breakfast so that we could get the 7.30 bus. The 7.30 bus didn't arrive, neither did the 8 o'clock, we were told the bus wouldn't come until 9.30 and then it turned up at 8.10. Don't think anyone knows what's going on with the buses or trains in srilanka and the roads are like one big game of wacky races. Me and leech definitely aren't winning anyway as the journey ...

... night - a three star with hot water - we had both not had a hot shower in almost two weeks and were desperate! A hot shower - 3 of them each! We had a final last night meal at the same place we had our first and couldn't believe that our first leg of our trip was over. A wonderful country full of extremes. The distinct differences of gritty Colombo city, the airy, beautiful hill country of Ella surrounded by endless tea plantations and mountains. Arugam Bay, ...
