... thankfully. My sandals finally gave up on me with just half an hour of trek remaining. I was carrying shoes so no worries there. We reached Khandas in time for the waiting vehicles and sped to Karjat station for the 6:42 fast. There wasn't another train for more than an hour after this one. In the middle of this, Katja’s flip flop gave way, so she was now a shoeless, 6 foot tall, blonde German wandering about in the Indian Countryside. Some genius improvisation on my part with a paper clip ensured we made it to a shoe seller and ...

... an elephant walking down one of the roads with 2 people sitting on top of it! We bought ourselves a sari and equipment to make proper chapatis. The most exciting purchase for us however was McDonald's and chocolate!!! The first Western food we had eaten since our arrival. The contrast between the huge posh shops and shopping centres on the same road as very basic stalls and shops is incredible! We had a wonderful 2 weeks in Paud and it was very difficult to say goodbye ...
