Hi everyone, there has been lots to do I hardly get time to write any blogs!! Yesterday we went to Regensburg and had an hour tour of the town. It was amazing. After I got home I wrote down everything I could remember in my diary, and it was about 8 pages! Of course we had an hour before the bus departed after the tour and I managed to some decorations at the Christmas Market, it was great and before I left I wanted to go back inside ...
Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany teiganduketis... it helped that I had already done trigonometry in Australia too). DAD!!! sent me a message during class so my phone went of!!! All of the German boys started laughing at me (as the ratio of girls to boys in Julia's class is about 1:3) and the teacher said something about me in German and I kept apologising. The teacher had a beard and longish wavy hair, he looked like one of those crazy smart Mathematicians. We then went to Bogen for about an hour and a half ...
Bogen, Bavaria, Germany teiganduketisWoke up today as we were approaching Regensburg, a well preserved medieval town. I joined Jack and Suzanne for a walking tour of the town. Our guide was very good and had interesting stories to tell about the town’s history. We saw the oldest stone bridge in Germany which was completed in 1146. It was the only Danube crossing for hundreds of years, and was the starting point for the second and third Crusades. We also saw the Roman Gate to the ...
Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany tucsonjohn... get back Sunday night. Monday you are recovering from the weekend, unpacking and such. Tuesday you have the full day to yourself, but we have meetings. Wednesdays you have to prepare for the coming weekend, packing and stuff. Then Thursday you go to class, then it starts all over again. And somewhere in all of that stuff going on you have to find time for homework and laundry (and eat and sleep).
I have a crazy sleeping schedule. It is so easy to stay up until 2 am ...
... to IKEA, however I had a fun experience with getting on the bus before everyone else and getting shut in the door. Not only did my arm almost get detached, but I was alone on a 20 minute bus ride (and the next one didn't leave for 2 hours), the bus driver did finally let me off the bus though, and after a short little walk, I rejoined my friends at the train station (where many of the buses leave ...
Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany ab10Regensburg is one of the oldest towns in Central Europe, with the first settlement on the site dating back to the Stone Age. Its modern history dates to Roman times with the construction of the Castra Regina fort (a Roman fort) on the site; the Bishopric of Regensburg was established in 739. It was an Imperial Free City for nearly 600 years until 1803; for the last 150 of those years it was also hosted the parliament of ...
Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany mlbates29Today, everyone from the program got up and went on a boat ride to a site called the Wahalla, which is a replica of the Parthenon. It was a nice, peaceful ride with great company. The sun was out, it was just an absolute lovely day. When we got to the site, we had to climb many steps, but it wasn't anything new for me, I'm quite used to climbing steps these days. We walked around for a while, then went inside to see the busts and sculptures inside. We then trecked ...
Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany ab10... one. It was 2 hours long and explained lots of the sights that I saw that wasn't printed in the guidebook. There were only 3 other people in my group, 2 were French and the other was Asian. English wasn't their first language, but they only run tours in German or English. I still have seen very few English speaking people!
Left Regensburg a little earlier than planned. It was smaller than expected and it didn't take long to walk around the old town and ...
... The religions are very tolerant of each other and when St Elizabeth's church, which was built without a bell as the Princebishop wouldn't allow one, St James Lutheran church next door rings their bells for the Catholic Mass. The Castle is an amazing building and I only wished we could have gone inside. It was started in approx. 1100 and took 500 years to build. The Imperial Castle Gate has 1562 above it. There are 3 crests above the gate, the main one ...
